Let’s Trade Links

By - July 29, 2009 - 2 Comments
I 'm not looking to trade links with just anyone.  If you'd like to be listed on my blogroll.  I require only two things.  1. I already read your site (or want to after seeing it) 2. You link to my site.  Don't be offended if I chose not to trade links.  It is not a reflection on the quality of your site.... Read More »

And The Award for the Worst Press Release for a Website Goes Too…………

By - July 23, 2009 - 0 Comments
Ebaumnation.com  (No link because they don't deserve it for the release)   Because I have an infinite amount of time to go through press releases I usually can find some good news and information among the worthless babble issued by various companies.  I think I stumbled across the worst written, worst website, and worst reason to have a press release I've seen to date.  I actually visit ebaumnation, a spinoff of Ebaumsworld, and it can be a funny website that occassionally has enough content worthy of coming back to.  Like the original ebaum, most of the content is stolen from other sites, but the... My ErinAndrewsPeepholeVideo Experiment

By - July 21, 2009 - 0 Comments
There aren't many dot com domain names left in the world with any relevance that can still be hand registered. The only opportunity left is certain major events that draw attention.  I am usually not that fast of a mover, nor am I a good SEO person to capture the traffic in a quick manner.  It's something I need to practice.  One, how do get a name that is a strong name that people may type in.  Two, how do I monetize it even if I do get it?  I was reading Sunday night about Erin Andrews and a video that may be out so I registered ErinAndrewsPeepholeVideo.com for $8 and figured it was worth a quick... Invest In Yourself and You Could Rake in $30 Million

By - July 19, 2009 - 2 Comments
Are you the kind of person that is willing to forgo good money for the chance to make great money?  Are you willing to take nothing now for the chance to make fantastic money down the road? Todd Phillips was. Phillips is the director of 'The Hangover'.  Philips was insistent on casting his actor friends Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper, and Ed Helms, none of them big names, and was forced to take his salary from the eventual profits, making him an investment partner in the film. It is estimated that he exchanged 15% of the revenue for his usual salary as a director.  He figured if it did 'Old School... Read More »

Cakes.com Promotes Site By Building World’s Largest Cupcake

By - July 18, 2009 - 2 Comments
I can't think of a better way to promote your generic domain name/company than breaking a world record. That's exactly what the people at cakes.com did.  According to their press release The cupcake's final weight was measured at 150.7 pounds, including 15 pounds of fudge filling and 60 pounds of yellow icing. It stood 12 inches tall and 24 inches wide. A candle topped the creation, bringing the total height to 4 feet. The cupcake's final size yielded 1,500 servings. "I am pleased to welcome this fun and creative achievement into the Guinness World Records family," said Danny Girton, Jr., Guinn... Read More »

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.com Still Available…….Too Late It’s Taken

By - July 17, 2009 - 2 Comments
It never surprises me what people what domains people will register until I found this information over at Funny Domains.  Now I am surprised.  I understood the registers until about eight Zs and then it became ridiculous.  To make it even more comical, the .nets are registered. I assume its to protect the brand name of zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.com.  In some ways these may be brilliant registers because if someone falls asleep at the keyboard they have a fantastic chance of chance of having their left ear hold the z key down making all those multiple z registers priceless.   Take a look below a... Hulu Changed More Than Internet Tv, It Changed 4L Domaining

By - July 16, 2009 - 0 Comments
Saying Hulu changed Internet Tv is not reaching too far out on a limb but changing domaining?  When hulu.com first came out it was the personal blog of Amy Hung.  Beautiful graphics (sarcasm) and wonderful pictures of childbirth. Little did she know it would be such an important domain in many ways.  In August of 2008 she sold the site to NBC. She hadn't done anything with the site in 4 years so she was probably very happy to get what they paid.  Even more excited were the people the owned CVCV.com domains.   For the first time in a major company formed a site based on a cool four letter domain ... How I Made Over .02 Cents a Day With My Domain Name

By - July 15, 2009 - 2 Comments
That's a title you're not going to see on most domainers blogs but I can guarantee many people are holding domains that don't even generate enough revenue to pay for renewal fees. I treat my domain portfolio like a company.  I don't necessarily have to make money this year, but if I don't break even I'm going to have to make some layoffs.  Layoffs are drops or sales.  I won't sell my moneymakers or premium names.  I don't want to be like the idiot government of Illinois and sell off my parking meters to a private company.  I won't give up strong long term cash flow for near term gain.  I simply fi... Bing Is The New Restaurant That Just Opened Downtown

By - July 15, 2009 - 2 Comments
I have used this analogy many times trying to explain why Bing will be just another search engine.  It happens at every city around the nation.  A new restaurant opens up with lots of publicity. It's all over TV, in the paper, and casual conversation that week is "have you tried the new restaurant X"?   For the next few weeks you have to wait in line, make sure you have reservations, and fight the crowds to get in the hot new restaurant.  You assume it's has to be good because the owners are the same owners as Y and that place is pretty good. You finally go to the restaurant and the food is good but... Read More »
