By ShaneCultra - November 23, 2009 - 0 Comments
We all know more and more readers of our sites are arriving on their mobile phones so you need to make sure that your site is quick and easy to navigate when viewed from a small phone. If you want to optimize your site to the fully extent and to truly monetize the mobile crowd, you're going to need to go to custom coding. If you aren't going the custom route, there are some great wordpress plugins to make your theme switch as it detects a mobile device. The Monday Morning Daily 7 Links

Took a break from domaining this weekend and it appears like a lot of people did from looking at the traffic. For some domainers, the traffic is going to slow down but for others, the shopping season is THE time to make some money. I hope to be the latter. Now on to the morning links
Ebay really needs to do something about people using their site for free links. $21 million, really?

DomainShane Goes To Washington
By ShaneCultra - November 22, 2009 - 1 Comment
I always forget to mention that one of the keys to making money is having a wife that makes all the money. My wife had to go to DC for business so I figured I would take my daughter and tag along. As usual, camera in hand, I went out to take some photos and have some fun. My daughter and I love the "jump shot" where we jump and take a photo in front of famous locations. We have a pretty good collection over the years and added a few more on this trip. I also love architectural shots and of course plants. I figure some of these may help in websites or for stories so I took the doorways of alm... Read More »

Sorry about missing the links yesterday. Flew into DC and got in late. Tried to do it in the morning but the old iPhone AND the computers were dead and somehow left BOTH chargers on the table at home. Therefore, these links are sponsored by Radio Shack and Belkin

Using the Web to Help Mom: BuyMyMomsHouse.com
By ShaneCultra - November 19, 2009 - 0 Comments
A California entrepreneur is using his skills to help his Mom sell her house. A house she's had on the market for over a year. Using the domain Buymymomshouse.com, he's hoping he'll create a little more buzz than the house has seen using traditional methods. A quick website and a press release, and he's hoping the publicity and website will help Mom get out from under the house. Here's an excerpt from the Press Release
According to Christopher Simmons, who put up the site, "What is this Web site all about? Well, my Mom is now alone since my father passed away in 2003, and since ... Read More »
8 Little White Lies Prevalent During Domain Sale Negotiations
By ShaneCultra - November 19, 2009 - 4 Comments
In order to maximize the sale price of our domains we all tell little white lies. Of course I've had the same ones told right back to me. Here are my top ten favorite lines hear during negotiations.
1. The fake "other" buyer " I need to know if you still want the domain because I have someone else who wants to buy it"
2. The rush job. "I'll offer you X (always a lowball offer) but it's only good for 24 hours.
3.The "I have a backup domain" buyer. "I will pay you X and if you don't take it, I have another similar domain I am going to buy that is selling for that
4. "I paid more than that" Wel... Read More »
10 Things I Need to Survive in the Online Development World
By ShaneCultra - November 18, 2009 - 4 Comments
1. Wordpress: It's pretty obvious. When it comes to creating a nice site there is no easier way than wordpress.
2. A Good Host: I use Mediatemple.net. They have always treated me well. For 20-$30 a month I can host 20 sites with medium traffic or a few with big traffic. They survive reddit and digg front pages without a blip. HostGator is a good one but ask around the domaining world and it's pretty easy to find a good cheap host.
3. A Designer: You think you can do it yourself but once you've had a professional designer, you'll realize how bad you are. Sure it can add up, but e... Read More »

Headed to DC today for a little White House Trip. My 10 year old daughter is at the perfect age to take it all in and we were lucky enough to get a few private tours set up for us so off we go for a few days. You can't just drop in the White House anymore. You have to make a bunch of promises to get in. You don't necessarily have to keep them, you just have to be sincere when you make them. Now on to the links
Just to remind everyone I have the cheapest advertising in domaining at only $15 a month......ok NOW onto the links

My Sexy New Site….Vermicomposting.com
By ShaneCultra - November 17, 2009 - 1 Comment
It's not a very sexy word but neither are worms. Vermicomposting is a the practice of making worm castings from kitchen waste using worms. I've had worm composting bins for a few years and figured I had enough pictures and knowledge to do a website. I ended up purchasing vermicomposting.com this past year and was waiting some free time to get the site up. I was off from work on Sunday so I figured it was as good as any day to get started. This is what I came up with in a day using Wordpress and my collection of photos. I am am not the greatest photographer but I may be the most prolific. I c... Read More »

How to Make $1 a Day and Draw a Small Audience In Only 30 Days
By ShaneCultra - November 17, 2009 - 4 Comments
[caption id="attachment_445" align="alignleft" width="219" caption="What I look like at night up writing"][/caption]
Not really the headline that makes you want to blog is it? My wife stopped asking several blogs ago about why I write for nobody each night. I would put in an hour every night writing for audience of 10 to 100 people. And that was just unique visitors, most of them probably never read a sentence. In the beginning she would question my sanity, or vanity. I can remember telling her, "you have to start somewhere". That is always at the bottom. When you start blogging, nobody know...
