Tuesday Morning’s Daily 7 Links
By ShaneCultra - November 17, 2009 - 0 Comments
[caption id="attachment_439" align="alignleft" width="238" caption="How Come We're Not Selling Any Tickets?"][/caption]
The daily links seem to be catching on. I've gotten lots of good email feedback. If you hate it or like it let me know. Feel free to suggest a good story you've written as well. By the way, finally got Domain Shane up on Twitter. I'll be following all the domainers soon but if you'd like to make it easier, follow me and I'll follow you back
Mark Madsen of the NBA is evidently a domain investor. He bought P2P.com on ebay. The only problem was it was stolen.

I Saved Money Designing My Blog By Staying In House……Really In House
By ShaneCultra - November 16, 2009 - 1 Comment
My 9 year old daughter thought my site and logo looked bad so I told her she was free to do better. She did, so I changed it over the weekend. I let her choose the theme and design the logo and draw a wonderful picture. The results were exactly the personal touch I was looking for and I really like it. Her picture doesn't show my athletic build but it does give me a much fuller head of hair than I really have. Both the picture and the logo were drawn on powerpoint, which since 5, is her video game of choice. She's always drawing people, places, and things on it and just loves the animation... Read More »
Monday Morning Daily 7 Links
By ShaneCultra - November 16, 2009 - 2 Comments
I had a pretty busy weekend. I built the pond you see to the left, redesigned domainshane, and put up a website. It was the first weekend I had some free time in 6 months so I thought I would put it to use. The pond is 28 ft X 18' and the center piece is a Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Verdoni' and has been trimmed the last 15 years waiting to find that perfect place. I found it. What do you think? Now onto the Morning 7 maybe 8 or 9.
Twitter's valuation is half of what the VC rounds are valuating it at. The main reason? Only 17% of users actually go to the Twitter.com site.

Analysis of the Upcoming Luxury Names Auction Using Valuate.com Estimation
By ShaneCultra - November 15, 2009 - 0 Comments
Luxury Names and Snapnames have teamed together for a November 18-24 auction featuring over 200 generic keyword domains. There are many ways to analyze the value of names but since Valuate was nice enough to sponsor my blog (plug: more spots available) I've decided to use Valuate to evaluate the reserves set for the auction. I've combined the data from the Luxury Names auction with the results of Valuate and come up with the difference between Valuate's calculated value and Luxury Names' reserve. I've started from the positive side and shown the domains that were shown to be undervalued first, fo... Read More »

Twitter’s DM System Has Turned Into a Spam Box. A Simple Button Would Clean The Whole System
By ShaneCultra - November 13, 2009 - 2 Comments
It's getting ridiculous, and tonight's one of the worst nights yet. I don't mind the bots following me or the autorespond direct message but this never ending direct message of "hey I saw you in this picture" or "I'm smarter than you, check your IQ" "Is this you?" is a bit much. Every single DM in my mailbox is spam with a link. I've had to turn off the DM notification emails within a week but I can't even see if I received any real DMs because of all the junk in there. I've had to go to an automated system that deletes all DMs with a link and flags them so I can filter them out. It's pret... Read More »

Coincidence? I Had My Best Week This Year Selling Domains
By ShaneCultra - November 13, 2009 - 3 Comments
I sold three domains this week for a total of $2600. Not my best total but the first time I've sold three. It was pure coincidence that it fell as the same time I've gotten my domain blog up and running, as 2 of these were in auctions and 1 was a private buyer. No it's not life changing money but it did result in $1200 profit which is nice play money for the next purchase. What is not a coincidence is the fact that reading all these domain blogs has taught me where and when to sell some of my domains. Auctions can be a great way to liquidate. Between Sedo, Bido, and Snapnames I feel I have p... Read More »
The Friday Morning 7 Links
By ShaneCultra - November 13, 2009 - 2 Comments
I'm not sure if anyone even cares about these links but I have a good time looking for them so I'm going to continue posting them. I received my first two emails suggesting a link so that's a sign that at least two people are reading them. By the way, I'd like to thank my Mom and Uncle Bob for sending the links.
BrocObama, get it? I put it up because I get a private tour of the White House next Thursday. It's nice having political connections, OK I know our Congressman
It looks like a normal wheelbarrow race .......but then

Only 5 Spots Left: It’s the Best Deal in Domaining Blogs says my Mom
By ShaneCultra - November 12, 2009 - 2 Comments
First of all, I would like to thank my Mom for being the first one to sponsor my blog. Although she made me put up "I Love You Mom" it was nice to see that at 40 years old she still supports my endeavors. Before I start calling other members of my family I would like to offer this super cheap advertising to support my habit. At $15 a month I know you've spent $15 bucks on much stupider stuff than this. Remember when you bought that round of drinks for those girls that you had a zero percent chance to take home? Or how about that time you spent $900 to have that penny removed from your cat's co... Read More »
Let’s Have a Little Fun at Bido’s Expense
By ShaneCultra - November 12, 2009 - 3 Comments
The old saying is "bald men are not electable" but Sahar over at Bido has proven they are more than capable of opening a website. Not just any old website but a website lets you try and recoup some money from that .cc domain you bought after you came home drunk from that bachelor party. You had good intentions when you registered "idratherhaveabottleinfrontofmethanafrontallobotomy.cc but the type-ins weren't as many as you'd hope. You thought it would be a total loss but then you stumbled on Bido.
Originally called Re-Cyc.le the name was quickly changed to Bido.com and the motto became, "We D... Read More »

Want to Build A Following/Friends/Anything? Answer Emails
By ShaneCultra - November 12, 2009 - 1 Comment
There is no better way to build a blog, domain, or company than through strong communication. Emails are the leading form of communication yet so many people neglect it. It's a simple process, someone emails you, you respond. It doesn't have to be at length. It can be short and to the point. Start off by addressing the sender, put a short note , and finish off with a salutation and your name. How hard is that?
Evidently, it is very hard. I am always surprised by those that don't respond. The other day there was a person/company looking for domains to put in their auction. They poste... Read More »
