A Loss Leader Strategy That Helps Unemployment (pic)

By - December 21, 2009 - 0 Comments
. . . This is Plaza Cleaners in Portland. Of course its Portland, the land of everything nice.   I thought it was a pleasant, if not brilliant, sign.  Reminds me you can give back to the community AND make money.  I will say that I feel like I give back to the community by providing a job for 40 people and the families that rely on my business and my decisions for income.  I think Scrooge said something similar.... A Few Nice Domains Dropping Today

By - December 21, 2009 - 0 Comments
GoodStocks.com Great $4 CPC and over 5K searches.  Valuate has this one at $11,000.  Anything under $1,000 is a great buy here Commodityoptions.net High paying keyword ($13.49) Also has 1240 searches per month. AuburnCheerleaders.com Could be the ugliest site on the internet. Of course I graduated from Alabama. Roll Tide Backswing.net Great golf name.  Valuate at $850 CPC $1 and 850 searches.  No bidder at the time of post Suem.net "Sue Them"   I'm not sure if it's worth the $69 but lawyers pay well. Location.org Not going cheap but a nice name.  Location ie geo based apps are as ... Read More »

I Think Bido Has Turned the Corner

By - December 19, 2009 - 1 Comment
When a commercial site is created it has to provide three things.   1. Provide a service to the user   2. Have an interface that is easy to use  3. Make money.   In a constant battle to do all three, Bido has been an ever evolving endeavour that most likely has Jared and Sahar sitting up late at night thinking of ways to make the site better.  The difference between Bido and many other sites is the fact they DID make it better.  I will be the first in line to say the "middle" transition was rough.  There was no incentive or reason to actively take part in determining what went to auction.  Onc... Looking for a Web Designer

By - December 18, 2009 - 1 Comment
I started to go back to Elance and then I got to thinking.  If I'm looking for a good web designer why not go to the people that use them every day, domainers.  Here is what I'm looking to do.  If you've read my blog you've figured out that I invest in plant names.  I've been taking pictures and cataloging plants for years and I want to put this database on the web in a beautiful, easy to navigate, SEO optimized, format. Presently it is none of the former. Basically, they stink but many are rated on the first page of Google for their keyword. Presently the monetization will come through ads with fut... Read More »

China Has Banned Individuals from Registering Internet Domain Names

By - December 17, 2009 - 0 Comments
As of Monday, anyone applying to register a domain name in China must present a company chop and a business licence, the China Internet Network Information Center, a government-backed body, said in a statement. Internet Service Providers now have to review all their clients to see if they are being "harmful".  By harmful, they mean things such as providing pornography or anti-government activity. Over the past 10 years, Chinese citizens could simply apply for a domain name on the internet at their free will.  Starting this week, it is going to be much more strict with a new application process bein... Links are More Than Just Links

By - December 17, 2009 - 0 Comments
One of the most important things I've learned in the last two months in the "domaining world" is that my efforts are much better spent learning SEO and user habits , than picking perfect names.  My  latest self teaching is link building. Rather than pay someone to randomly and blindly throw links up all over the internet,  I and  a few others spend a little time each night finding sites and blogs that fit the interest of our websites.  We often comment or answer questions that our websites can either help with or provide more information.  We try and avoid just saying somet... Random Thoughts Of The Day: Off Topic But Worth a Read

By - December 16, 2009 - 2 Comments
Every once in a while you get something that is worth passing on.  It's not about domaining but it is real life and REAL funny. Random Thoughts of the Day: (sorry about the 1. by each too lazy to go and change them all) I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option. More often than not, when someone is telling me a story all I can think about is that I can't wait for them to finish so that I can tell my own story that's not only better, but also more directly involves me. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong. I ... Read More »

5 Nice Domains Dropping Today

By - December 16, 2009 - 1 Comment
Not a strong day for drops.  Most of the domains I found today aren't very good keyword domains but still some nice names.  I may throw in a few available names to hand register starting tomorrow as well.  All the emails I've been getting seems to point to the most popular names I put up being the cheaper finds.  The names with 67 bidders usually go to the big boys. CircusPeanuts.com I have wanted this domain ever since I got sick on the those orange puffy treats.  You may have to fight me on this.  I am going to be the circus peanut King. TweetDesk.com/.net/.org A nice domain with 400 mont... Read More »
