Who Says There’s No Good Names Left for Hand Reg? I Found A Fantastic One
By ShaneCultra - January 21, 2010 - 2 Comments
Actually it was me. I still believe it for the most part but you certainly can make up brandable names that work well for your website. I am going to start another humor site (I sold all the rest) and I needed a funny name and came across a real beauty that wasn't registered. LazyStripper.com. I laugh just saying it out loud and I can already see the logo. A heavy set woman in lingerie sitting on the edge of the stage smoking a cigarette. Add a little smeared lipstick and messed up hair and you have the perfect lazy stripper.
My wife is my editor for almost everything I do. She does... Read More »
Did I Lose a Tooth?
By ShaneCultra - January 21, 2010 - 1 Comment
Remember that scene Hangover when he wakes up and there's a tiger in the bathroom and baby in the closet? That's the feeling I had when I woke up this morning.
I'm not a big party person any more but I seem to forget that every year at the first day of conferences. I thought as I got older I would learn to drink water between drinks, not accept a shot from everyone who send me one, and cut the night short if I've had too many. Nope
We've all been there. You hit the conference, take a few people out for dinner, head to the bar for a few drinks and the next thing you know you wake up next to a nak... Read More »

Bido vs Sedo: One Name Sold on Both Sites in the Same Month
By ShaneCultra - January 20, 2010 - 5 Comments
Both sites have their place. Each one does things well and each has their issues but we are about to see which one gets the most for a domain.... ZESE.com, which has been up for auction at both sites. I was the proud owner this domain and decided to give it a try and put it up for sale at Bido. I put a reserve of $1000 and like I thought, it flew through the voting process and made it to auction. At the time my thinking was this. I paid $1000 at Sedo and even if the auction went bad, the worst thing that would happen is I would lose a little money on the commission. The best case scenario,... Read More »

A Few Nice Domains Dropping This Morning: Chicago Edition
By ShaneCultra - January 20, 2010 - 1 Comment
In Chicago today on business and will be here for a few days before I fly out to Vegas. I will be late to TRAFFIC and arriving Thursday. Go ahead and start the conference without me. No need to wait. I'll be in early evening Thursday and don't want to have to push the whole conference back a day just for me. Now on to the names for today
InternshipsAbroad.com Lots of searches on this one (4,000+) and Ok $1.41 CPC. Will probably go in the $700-800 range
Cugi.com I like it but so does everyone else with all the bidders
BulkCereal.com Imagine, Frosted Flakes by the truckload. I've foun... Read More »

10 Reasons Why You Should Meet Me at TRAFFIC
By ShaneCultra - January 19, 2010 - 7 Comments
What gave away the fact that I'm excited about going to TRAFFIC? Was the 1st post about it or the 50th? By now you know that I'm headed to Vegas to break my domain conference virginity. The main reason I'm going is to finally meet all the great people I've come to know since I've started domaining. To truly build strong relationships it's always better to shake a hand and talk to someone in person. That being said, here are 10 reasons why you should be excited to meet ME in Vegas
1. To find out if the rumors on the Internet about me finding the ultimate Vegas shirt at Goodwill are true. ... Read More »
A Few Nice Domains Dropping This Morning
By ShaneCultra - January 19, 2010 - 0 Comments
Hope everyone had a nice holiday yesterday (not a day off for me but still an important day). I had to pack last night because I have two conferences this week with one being TRAFFIC. I don't know what I spent more time picking out, these names or clothes for the conferences in Chicago and Vegas (assuming I find any). Was lucky enough to sell two names yesterday and a decent profit helping me raise a little cash for the Big Auction coming up.
Mawo.com A very nice CVCV that is easily pronounced and easy to spell.
TVTC.com Will always be an acronym but anything with TV in it will have res... Read More »

Some Famous Quotes on Domaining
By ShaneCultra - January 18, 2010 - 2 Comments
I love quotes. It probably started with Grandma's "Quotable Quotes" section in the Reader's Digest. It could have been that my Dad loves quotes. He didn't go around quoting people. He read books and would always say to my Mom, "Oh, THIS is a great one" and read off some funny or highly perceptive quotes someone thought were good enough to put into book form. I still get Reader's Digest for that section and realize the best quotes were not written to become quotes but usually just an answer to a question. Here are some of the better ones I've heard about buying and selling domain names. I'll qu... Read More »
7 Very Nice User Friendly/Easy on the Eye Website Designs
By ShaneCultra - January 18, 2010 - 0 Comments
Web users love pretty. After pretty come functionality. Here are a few sites that combine both. As domainers, web development is not our forte, but as parking revenue free falls, domain owners are realizing there is opportunity above and beyond a little hasty mini-site. Beauty is only part of a site. We need good SEO and an easy to use backend. Many of these sites have Wordpress backbones with custom coded fronts (I'm changing my sites over to this format) that give them a very unique look with a easy to use editor. They're the kind of sites that make you say. Man I wish my site was that coo... Read More »

WordPress Theme Designer Goes Missing and Her Domain Is Fetching Huge Money
By ShaneCultra - January 17, 2010 - 0 Comments
Becca Wei of Hong Kong was a hit in the world of Wordpress Themes. With Themes like Ocadia and Almost Spring, she made simple and clean themes that people seemed to like. Her site Beccary received thousands of uniques per month and had over 8000 links. Then in June 2007 she she decided to quit. She just stopped posting and moved on to another world. People saw her active at Facebook and on the net but she made no mention of why or goodbye. Rumors of a new job and new life floated around, but nobody really knew for sure. She had many fans that posted questions asking what happened on various for... Read More »

In 1999 Good Domains Were Impossible to Find
By ShaneCultra - January 16, 2010 - 3 Comments
At least that's what Mark Gibbs thought in an article written in 1999 for Network World. It's easy to look back and laugh.....so I did. I figure I wasn't smart enough to buy generic domains back then so I like to look back and read articles about "domaining" (not a word back then) from the 1990's and see what "experts" were saying. Mark Gibbs was an expert working and writing about domain names and the registering of such names. It's ironic that almost every article I read seemed to deal with domains and their trademark infringement, yet none of them said "go generic". They simply poin... Read More »
