The Weekly Domain Twitter Post and Response Session

By - February 24, 2010 - 0 Comments
It's that time once a week where I take various Twitter posts regarding domaining and give them the proper answer they are seeking.  Here are the tweets of the week @KevinSavetz Dear Domain Registry of America: you suck. Sincerely, Kevin. Are you mad because they are the "registry of America" and based out of Canada or because they scam people with email stating that the transfer of a domain is 'not complete at this time', and requesting the domain owner follows a series of steps to complete the transfer to DRoA.   For me it's the Canada thing @jessaguilera The company we registered the doma... A Few Nice Domains Dropping Today

By - February 24, 2010 - 0 Comments
I apologize for my site loading so slow.  My host Media Temple is struggling.  I would like to think that it's because Domain Shane is getting so much traffic but I used to have a site on the same package that on some days would receive 100,000 uniques and it didn't lag like this site is.  I WILL have it fixed soon or I will be on another host this weekend.  Now on to the names. TheDistillers.com An old punk band thus the searches (33K)  $6,000 valuate because of it ReplayIt.com Great name, lots of uses. Not very many bidders Debbie.org I'm the only bidder and I promise to not pay attentio... Read More »

MousePath Turns Into Internet Art Sensation

By - February 23, 2010 - 0 Comments
A few days ago I did an article about Mouse Path.  Over the last few days I've realized that this little program has quite a following. The beauty of it is its simplicity.  A mouse tracker that records the movements of your mouse through line drawings and circles.  Rather than use it as a tool, it turns out it has Mouse Path has drawn (pun intended) quite a following in the art world.  Anatoly Zenkov, the creator of the program emailed me today to show me some of the work that's been done with it and that he's updated the program and marketed it as an art program.  Something fun that allows each pe... 17 “Feel Good” Moments In Domaining

By - February 23, 2010 - 2 Comments
These are the moments in domaining we all have when something goes well.  It's a little mushy and not something guys sit around and chat about,  but every once in a while I like to remind myself why I do something. The great moments that make you want to keep investing and buying more domains.  Here are 17 "feel good" moments I've experienced over the last 10 years or those that I hope I feel some day. 1. Selling that first domain for a profit.  For most of us it was a hand reg.  I was so proud of myself I felt like having a T-Shirt made up that said "I just made $200 today" and wearing it aroun... A Few Nice Domains Dropping Today

By - February 23, 2010 - 0 Comments
Not very many good generic keyword domains so I had to branch into page ranked drops and other "style" of domains.  I've been in too much of a hurry lately when doing these lists.  I've missed the fact that a few were on the wish lists and had been renewed with a few days left.  I won't make that mistake again, at least they won't be when I type these out.  Thanks for the understanding and hope at least one person is getting something out of the lists beside me.  Now onto the names Phoo.com One of those 4L names that generic investors could care less about and 4 letter people love.  A slight pr... Using MousePath to Find out Your Surfing “Trends”

By - February 22, 2010 - 2 Comments
When laying out a website a designer always want to lay it out in a way that draws the eyes and the clicks.  Almost all websites are all laid out the same based on these studies.  Banner ads to the to the top right, logo to the top left,  navigation and more ads on the edges.   As a test I wanted to see where people moved their mouse during a day of web surfing.  What I found to do this was a simple program called MousePath that tracks the movement of your mouse.  Move it, it leaves a line.  A stationary mouse building a circle that gets bigger the longer it stays still.  I put the program on a... There’s Been Some Real Nice 5L Sales Lately

By - February 22, 2010 - 5 Comments
Just enough to keep the dreams alive of all the people that buy all the other junk 5Ls.   I hated to even post it because I didn't want people think that all 5 Letter dot coms are valuable.  Most are not,  but you can spell a lot of things with 5 letters and you can also create names that mean nothing, are easy to spell, and make great web names.  This has led to some nice sales over the last few months.  Take a look at the sales numbers DARKY.COM $5510 Sedo OHBOX.COM $2500 Sedo IWAYA.COM $2375 Sedo AGEAS.COM $2245  Sedo PHIBO.COM $4002 Sedo IDOCK.COM $3600 NameJet XYLEM.COM ... Some very nice domains dropping today and as I always say.  It's Monday and that means another week and another opportunity to make some money. Coulda Shoulda Woulda: I Watched Someone Else Turn 8K into 40K in 23 Days

By - February 21, 2010 - 13 Comments
I don't know who actually flipped it, I only know it wasn't me. As a constant watcher of Godaddy drops I came across a name I really liked, FederalAid.com.  I always try and set a maximum before an auction starts so I have some kind of game plan going in.  Things changed a little as I sold a name two days before the auction that gave me an extra few thousand to play with.  As usual, nothing happened until the last few minutes and the price quickly surpassed my 5K but I decided I would go to 7K but that was quickly passed as well. I made the mistake of going to valuate for personal justification (I... Read More »

Some Special Names Dropping This Weekend

By - February 20, 2010 - 0 Comments
Weekends are a good time to find dropping names. Many people are busy and they forget to get in their bids. They will also put in their bids early leaving you to pick out the ones they missed. Here are a few that I thought may show value. . GetStoned.net A stoner name now but when/if marijuana gets legalized this could be a huge name BigHeadphones.com People are certainly wearing them and 2300 people search for them. Definitely worth $10 ZanJ.com This one is pronounceable and cool. If you can get it for $100-$150 you will be able to flip this in the near future for good profit (Oimo is nice t... Read More »
