So I Decided to Raise This Cow So I Could Eat Him

By - July 30, 2010 - 4 Comments
[caption id="attachment_3711" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="This is a representation of Hammy"][/caption] I had this great idea. I was going to do a website about me buying a calf, raising him, and then eating him. It was going to be called, RaiseitEatit.com. I went into it thinking that there are a lot of people like me in the world. A person that loves meat but not sure what in the heck I'm buying in the store. Myself and a guy that works for me decided we'd raise our own steer. So we went ahead and decided we'd attend the next auction. As I headed out to auction (I had forgotten to ... Read More »

Friday’s Daily Dropping Domains and a Joke

By - July 30, 2010 - 0 Comments
One of the best things about writing this blog are all the great emails I get (and a few spam emails).  Yesterday I got to meet a couple of great guys that reached out and let me know they enjoyed the blog.  It's a nice feeling to see that others get my sense of humor and outlook on life.  Life is made to be lived.  We make money so we can enjoy it.  I just need to make more because I want to enjoy it more.  Now onto the names. USDF.com I usually don't like 4 letter acronyms but with this one starting off with US I think this one has great value. JackRabbit.net 33,000 searches and a surprisi... Read More »

How I Lost $1500 Domaining in 30 Minutes

By - July 29, 2010 - 15 Comments
"Hey Rick what do you think of this domain?"  was the email I sent to Rick Latona.  The response...... "I don't see any value".   It was right there I knew I had paid too much for the domain.  It's not that Rick always gets them right but if you want a straight forward answer he's the guy you ask. It was several years ago that I attended a namepros live auction at their site.  I was excited.  I already had a ton of plant domains but I was just getting into flipping and had put $5,000 into a "domain fund" to start me off on my way to riches. I had recently sold a site for $75,000 and the money ... Read More »

Thursday’s Daily Dropping Domains

By - July 29, 2010 - 1 Comment
For the millionth time I was perusing through my domains and realized "I have too many".  Some I've even forgotten I have.  It struck me that I'm back to the same feeling I had with baseball cards.  I love to look through them and I all of a sudden I realize how much I've spent on them.  I hope this turns out better than the profits on my baseball collection.  At least I don't have all my money tied up in Ken Griffey Jr rookie cards anymore.  Now onto the names Globular.com I'm surprised how many people think this means "global".  Maybe you can sell it to one of them AdvertisingRates.com I ... Owen and Mr. Monster Talk Shop Today

[caption id="attachment_3673" align="aligncenter" width="185" caption="Picture courtesy of DnJournal"][/caption] [caption id="attachment_3675" align="alignleft" width="175" caption="Courtesy of DnJournal.com"][/caption] I've been waiting for this interview for a while.  I talk to Rob several times a week and I think Epik is on the right track to big things.  I'd like to think I've helped keep them on track through my constant bitching about what I'd like to see happen with the sites.  Let's call it constructive criticism.  What I like about Rob is his ability to take it those emails I give him... Wednesday’s Daily Dropping Domains

By - July 28, 2010 - 3 Comments
You ever have one of those days where it seems like nobody returns your emails?  Yesterday was one of those days.  I took the day off from work to rest (I've been doing a lot of that lately) and caught up on some emails.  At least on my half of them.  Looked like a lot of others took the day off as well.  As for the names, today looks better than yesterday but the bar was set real low DataCode.com A 1994 domain. Houseplant.com You have no chance getting this one because I'm bidding on it. LubeJob.com A great name.  My wife just gave me one of these yesterday.  She loves changing the oil ... Read More »

Guess What I Just Found Out? You Have to Spend Money to Make Money

By - July 27, 2010 - 9 Comments
We all want to own a premium domain and sell it for tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars but guess what?  You're going to have to spend money to get it BEFORE you flip it.  The stories like camroulette are once in a lifetime stories in this day and age,  and if you're waiting for a company like Groupon to come and pay you $250,000 for your $500 domain , you are kidding yourself. As a former trader I learned that if you want big money you're going to need a few things, cash, risk, luck, and time.  Some have the cash, some have the stomach, but very few have both. There is absolutely nothing wr... Read More »

Tuesday’s Daily Dropping Domains and July Reaches New Traffic High

By - July 27, 2010 - 2 Comments
DomainShane just had it's greatest month of traffic in it's history.  Of course, the history is only 9 months but I have received 26,000 uniques so far this month with a few days left to go.  There were a couple of big days for a few articles but traffic certainly is picking up.  And who would have thunk that people would actually care what I had to say......then again, maybe they still don't.  Maybe it's like a traffic accident over here and people are just stopping by to see the carnage.   Either way, on to the names BenefitPlan.com I only know this has value because that's what my wife does ... Want to See My 5 Letter Dot Coms?

By - July 26, 2010 - 3 Comments
If you're looking to make money in domaining then I would agree, 5 letter dot coms are not the way to go.  That being said, the world is an ever growing place and there are plenty of companies and organizations looking for names.  I've always felt that the shorter the domain, the easier it is to remember.  Unfortunately, you can't make very many words with 3 or 4 letters so it led me to 5.  I have made money in 5 letter domains but I've collected some pretty good ones in the last 10 years.  A few sales at a couple thousand each has more than paid for my names.  Now that a strong 5 letter dot com h... Monday’s Daily Dropping Domains

By - July 26, 2010 - 0 Comments
Hope everyone had a nice weekend, I finally did.  Didn't have to work on Sunday for the first time in a month.  Took the family to the County Fair and had a few lemon shakeups, deep fried stuff, and some funnel cakes.   Good thing I had a nice 25 mile bike beforehand.  I saved a little time to go through today's names and here they are. (not my best list ever) Baily.com Most of the time this word has an "E" in it but there are plenty of people and places that spell it this way TheBoyintheStripedPajamas.com A must read book that was also made into a movie. The domain is number two on Google. ... Read More »
