Google is Working On Getting Rid of Amazon Clones From Index. Or At Least Making It Tougher To Rank

By - January 25, 2011 - 3 Comments
In a post over at Ycombinator, the one and only Matt Cutts, offered a short but definitive answer to the question about the sites built on Amazon's Web Services.  The poster states "It's still not hard to slam some AWS-related keywords into Google and get these bogus results, though" and Matt's response? "Someone else already reported this. There's been some weird stuff going on with AWS-type pages, e.g. see http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2103401 for example. I don't know the exact cause, but I know the indexing team is aware of this issue and working on it" What exactly this means and when I... Read More »

Tuesday’s Daily Hot Auction Picks and Dropping Domains

By - January 25, 2011 - 5 Comments
Only a week until Domain Fest and I've got nothing to wear.  A nurseryman for Illinois doesn't have to dress up too much so I don't have many Sunday clothes and to make it worse, my body changes shape like the Wonder Twins.  I put on and take off 20 pounds every year for training and right now I'm at closer to the top but not too bad.  This year I kept training all winter to stay in shape.  So I'm going to have to sell a domain this week so I can buy some "LA" clothes.  Let's see if I can find a find a couple of domains that makes me want to put my money into names instead of a new polyester sports... Using “Borrowed” Photos? It Could Cause You To Lose Your Domain And A Lot of Money

By - January 24, 2011 - 8 Comments
It's a too common practice that we all have done or one time or another.  Looking for that quick photo to compliment an article or post to give it a little color.  A word to the wise, be careful. Companies more that ever are starting to look for compensation for unauthorized use and when I say compensation, I mean hundreds of thousands of dollars and your domain. Las Vegas newspaper copyright enforcement company Righthaven LLC has file 209 lawsuits since last March with most being sued for $105,000 and forfeiture of their domain.  Righthaven has not been choosy in their lawsuits.  They've sued ev... Are We Going To See Scalpers Selling Tickets to “Breakfast With Schilling” at DomainFest?

By - January 24, 2011 - 14 Comments
DomainFest had the great idea of letting conference attendees sign up to have breakfast or lunch with this years' panelist and the first to fill up was of course, Frank Schilling.  So fast that I think someone could actually resell their spots at Breakfast.  To say that Frank Schilling is the Warren Buffet of Domain Investing would not be a stretch.  Warren Buffet is so popular that the yearly auction to have lunch with him reached $2.6 million this year. I think they could auction a seat with Frank as well. If you haven't read Schilling's bio it's a must read over at DnJournal.  The kind of stor... Read More »

Monday’s Hot Auction Picks and Money Makers

By - January 24, 2011 - 4 Comments
I didn't do a post this weekend but there were some good names that came up.  I apologize for not getting the names up.  I picked up a nice domain in auction that ended at Snapnames during the Bears game.  It's one of those $200 to $1500 quickly domains.  Let's see if we can get a few more of those today. Here are today's picks. RentalCars.org Not sure why so many people like this one.  For those of you that are new to my blog that is sarcasm.  There tends to be a lot of that here.  And I say the word a lot a lot. KCCU.com Nice aged domain from 1995 and gets 20 or so visits a day.  Radio a... Read More »
