Does Google Own You? aka Don’t Be Google’s Bitch

By - February 28, 2011 - 16 Comments
Fred Wilson said it best.  "Don't Be a Google Bitch" It's a scary place to be.  Your whole business model based on where you rank on Google.  The majority of your income based on Google Adsense.  You may be surprised how many people are in this position.  Google owns them.  One algorithm change. One perceived click fraud and your income reduced to pennies.  It's a position you don't want to be in. It's basic business sense.  You never want to have all your eggs in one basket.  Relying on one single entity for income. Many of my fellow plant growers were in bed with Wal-Mart when Wal-Mart dec... Read More »

And the Award For Best Dropping Domain and Auction Goes To………….

By - February 28, 2011 - 2 Comments
If your home was anything like mine, yesterday involved the Oscars from 5 o'clock until I went to bed.  I'm in it for the beautiful women in dresses I admit.  Monday's are usually a bad day for names.  I'm not really sure why but Namejet is notorious for being light on Mondays.  I still found some I liked.   Here they are. Pronate.com What I like most about this domain is there are no bidders meaning it's going to go for cheap.  A 1997 domain.   Pronation is rolling of the ankles and as a runner it actually comes up in conversation.  To me pronate means "roll with it" Great name for the pric... Everyone Needs a Second Opinion………Or a Wife

By - February 27, 2011 - 4 Comments
There are a million decisions to make on a daily basis and most of them are merely routine and easy.  Then there are the others that have real consequence and there's nothing more comforting than to have a second opinion.  I'm not talking about a "yes man" at work that you pay and will agree with anything you say.  I am talking about a person that understands the question and can come up with an answer based on their information and experience.  While I am more than capable with handling my business, I have always made it a point to surround myself with great people and great minds to help me ma... Every Wondered How Many Visits a Domain Blog Gets Per Month? I’ll Tell You

By - February 26, 2011 - 30 Comments
I don't mind being open about most things.  I really don't have much to hide and I'm always curious how many visits other domain blogs get. Maybe you are as well so I'll share mine.  I figure I'm probably in the top 5 as far as traffic goes in the domain blog world.  Of course our world is tiny so that it's like saying you are the fastest kid at fat camp. Here are my numbers for the last month Visits: 17,125 Pageviews: 24,576 Pages/Visit: 1.44 Average time on site: 1:32 ( a little lighter than I'd like) Percentage New Visits: 48%    (I thought this is great because new people are fi... The Testing Came Back And Evidently I Did Get Pontiac Fever at DomainFest

By - February 26, 2011 - 9 Comments
Update: It turns out I am giving bad information here.  I was DIAGNOSED with Pontiac Fever.  It turns out there isn't really a test for Pontiac Fever and it's more of a diagnosis than a test result.  I tested negative for legionella and influenza (the forms they test for) and it was a reasonable diagnosis to put it in the Pontiac Fever area. It doesn't mean I didn't have it , but there is a heck of a difference between Legionnaire's disease and Pontiac Fever.  There has not been one positive return of legionella from anyone.  Not one.  While we most certainly got something,  it looks like they we...
