Twing.com Sells for $11,600: Quality Short Names Still Increasing in Value

By - September 3, 2011 - 46 Comments
You've heard me preach the value of a quality 5 letter dot com for years.  The market has really heated up this year with names now consistently reaching into the four figures.  A deleting name Twing.com hit $11,600 at Namejet. I was willing to even pay $3-5K for the name but bidding soared past the number. This has been the case for many short, "brandable" type names at auction or drop over the last few months.  Five letter, six letter names that have that startup or app sound have flourished.  Dobble.com hit $467, Skeech.com went for $200, Labl.com brought $2900.  The names ending in ly (not t... Registrars Don’t Want You to Do It But If You Do You’ll Save Money

By - September 2, 2011 - 9 Comments
This post is certainly not sponsored by any registrars because if you follow it you WILL save money.  We all do it.  Register or buy a name on a whim.  One that has a value of exactly zero dollars.  Maybe it was for this great new project you were going to build but eventually realized you would never do it. Maybe it just sounded good at the time and after a second look it had three times as many 'L's as you saw the first go round.  Then you sobered up and chalked $10 up to one too many Mojitos. It's bad enough you spent the money, but how many times have you made it worse by leaving it sit an... Read More »

Friday’s Daily Domain Drop and Auction Picks Zillion.com

By - September 2, 2011 - 5 Comments
Get ready ladies, DomainShane is expanding.  Before we get to the names today I'd like to announce we are adding three more writers.  Hand selected for humor and knowledge and one because he is the only Irish Indian I know .  Same great style with more information daily.  Thankfully everyone here works for peanuts because it keeps us hungry AND because I pay in peanuts.  Look for new fresh talent (and an Indian with a quilt ) in the next few weeks. Now onto the names. Zillion.com Been on this one for a while.  Will go just short of a zillion. Indicative.com The final price will in no way be ... Read More »

Brilliant Move By TRAFFIC: If the Online Bidding Doesn’t Work: Drop It

By - September 1, 2011 - 7 Comments
One of the hardest things in business is to admit defeat.  Most of the time it really isn't defeat, it's merely the fact that at this point in time you just can't make something happen.  Type A personalities, like myself, seem to think that with enough hard work, money, or both, anything is possible.  Some times that's just not the case.  You have to stick with what's working until something better is completely stable. Rick Latona thought he could finally bring an online auction to a conference with little to no glitches. He was wrong.  Boxcar thought the same thing.  Rick Schwartz and TRAFFIC lo... Read More »

Thursday’s Daily Domain Drop and Auction Picks BlueBerryMuffins.com, LesbianStore.com

By - September 1, 2011 - 2 Comments
Dramatic improvement in the quality of names.  Not saying these are going to change your life financially but certainly an improved lot.  Let's take a look and there's a great graph at the bottom. Campground.org 1999 Birthday.  The owner of campground.com has done a pretty good job with it and ranks #1.  You can grab the #2 spot which is just fine in the Google world.  Being the second boyfriend after Shaquille O'Neil.  Not as good. LesbianStore.com This used to be owned by Colonel Lingus but looks like he's selling. There was a rumor he was raising some money because he was tired of always ... Read More »
