Mona Simpson’s Eulogy to Her Brother, Steve Jobs: A Very Touching Tribute

By - November 30, 2011 - 2 Comments
As readers you know I truly enjoy words that touch or inspire.  I'm not sure where the words of writer and sister Mona Simpson fit it but I certainly know they are touching.  Take a few minutes to read her memories of her brother A Sister’s Eulogy for Steve Jobs By MONA SIMPSON I grew up as an only child, with a single mother. Because we were poor and because I knew my father had emigrated from Syria, I imagined he looked like Omar Sharif. I hoped he would be rich and kind and would come into our lives (and our not yet furnished apartment) and help us. Later, after I’d met my father, I tr... Read More »

It’s a Matter of Time Before Twitter Auctions Off All of the Valuable Inactive User Names

By - November 30, 2011 - 5 Comments
Let's face it.  The hundreds of millions of people coming to the Internet are taking up emails, screen names, and domains.  Think how hard it is now to get a Twitter account name that you want and the site just started a few years ago.  If you are opening a new gmail account chances are you're gonna get something like Shane435r3w5r@gmail.com.   The requests at Twitter have become so overbearing that they very infrequently turn over any names unless their is a blatant trademark infringement. But the rule stands the same.  It is against the Terms of Service to sell a name and while they frown upon se... Read More »

Is Email Just A Waste Of Time? One Company Ditches Email Altogether

By - November 30, 2011 - 3 Comments
Think about it. How effective is the email you send and receive? According to French tech company Atos, only 10% of inter-office emails have any value whatsoever. After originally announcing the plan in February, CEO Thierry Breton had this to say... “We are producing data on a massive scale that is fast polluting our working environments and also encroaching into our personal lives. At Atos we are taking action now to reverse this trend, just as organizations took measures to reduce environmental pollution ... Read More »

Wednesday’s Top Picks of Domains at Auction and Dropping From Around the Net

I would formally like to congratulate Obama on his re-election win.  As a Republican I can't take it any more and have conceded the race.  We are all human but damn, can we at least have a candidate that doesn't cheat on his wife?  We had Gingrich and Cain.  Gingrich is so cold he cheated while his wife was in the hospital recovering from cancer and Cain has been telling us he never touched any of these women and turns out he was having a 13 year affair all along.  If their wives can't trust them how am I supposed to?   Enough politics, on today's names. Urbana’s Shahid Khan Buys Jacksonville Jaguar for $725 Million

By - November 29, 2011 - 4 Comments
We all have people we admire in business.  One of my business idols is Shahid Khan.  Mr. Khan lives in my town Champaign, IL and his main business, Flex-N-Gate  is down the road from mine.   I had talked earlier in the year about his failed attempt to buy part of the St. Louis Rams but now he finally has his NFL team.  Today Shahid announced he purchased 100% of the Jacksonville Jaguars with an estimated value of $725 million. Many of you know the Frank Schilling story but the Shahid Khan story is no less impressive. Khan, originally from Pakistan, graduated from the University of Illinois.  D... Read More »
