Leasing Domains: My Advice on What a Business Needs to Think About When Leasing a Domain

By - December 31, 2012 - 3 Comments
There is no doubt in my mind, as prices rise, there will be more leasing of domains. Leasing makes sense for many businesses,  for others it may not.  There is really no sense in discussing the domain owner's side of the model because it's all win.  They get cash flow AND hold on to their asset.  The real discussion here is for the lessee.  I operate on both sides of the model and feel I understand the benefits to both.  The first question I ask myself is.  Why would a business rent a domain and build a market on someone else's domain? Building type in customers, building links, PageRank, and inc... Read More »

SHANE’S BIG LIST: Monday’s Domains at Auction or Dropping on the 31st

By - December 31, 2012 - 3 Comments
Well ladies, we made it.  Made it through another year.  I capped off the year yesterday by buying Groupons like they were crack (saving $700) and finished by winning my Fantasy Football league for a cool $1600.  That's how you end a year.   I'm still happily married, my teenage daughter likes me 50% of the time, and all my businesses had record sales.  Mission accomplished. I'm going to take it all in today, do absolutely nothing (maybe a party tonight and a little snow removal),  and start it all over again Tuesday.  Have a safe and fun New Year's Eve.  Here are the names and the quote. ... Absolutely Ridiculous: Registrar SpeedNames CHARGES for Account Info Changes

By - December 30, 2012 - 13 Comments
That's right. I've found a whole new level of ridiculous. I won a domain at Namejet recently and was awarded the name in a previously unheard of registrar named SpeedNames. It happens fairly regularly at Namejet. They represent quite a large group of registrars selling their expired names. It's what makes them great, and at the same time sucks when you have to deal with these small guys. Normally the first thing I do when I find out I'm at these small registrars is mark my calendar 60 days out so I immediately get it out and transferred to a registrar that isn't going to rip me off. I say rip me off bec... Read More »

SHANE’S BIG LIST: Sunday’s Domains at Auction or Dropping on the 30th and Few From the Future

By - December 30, 2012 - 1 Comment
Foodtastic.com Not a category killer but has brandability and age. 15 years old OregonFootball.info If you're a big fan and want to provide info then $12 isn't too much IMO. 11 years old 7174.com The 4 at the end takes away some value but the repeating 7s offsets some. I'm guessing it finishes close to $2K. ScienceDebate2008.com A real PR6 with 10,000 backlinks. WebTrain.com  All aboarddddddddd!!!!!!  16 years old Nannas.com   Grandma or fruit.  Either way I like Paraiso.com  Means paradise in Spanish and Portuguese. Easier to spell than Portuguese LingerieShop.com   B... Read More »

Hate to Beat the Godaddy Groupon Deal to Death But …….

By - December 29, 2012 - 14 Comments
We've all been reading about the awesome Godaddy Groupon deal that's available for the next day and a half but here are some info I can share after buying the coupon and using it today 1.  YOU CAN use all your Godaddy coupon promo codes with this deal.  You can use the 99 cent codes, the renewal codes.  All of them.  I used three different types of codes and they all worked.   The result was a lot of free money 2. YOU CANNOT use more than one code on your account PER CITY.  You can use as many different cities as you want 3.  YOU CAN transfer them. I'm not saying that Godaddy will condon... Read More »
