The Daily recap of Shane’s Auction Picks, the 4th of January

Auction Quick Recap

Another Good interview on the DomainSherpa.com today. One more way that anyone can make money with domains no matter how the current market is. I’ve never really tried this approach in the past. My Pre-liquid domain market and understanding had me always thinking about “leaving money on the table” and trying to attain the art of negotiations. I’d also think things like “I can’t sell that name for under this price, it has to average out and make up for all the crap I’ve bought.”

There are so many ways to think about domain investing and strategies that work. I really like the strategy presented in today’s show. I want to do an experiment with keyword domains that I buy on the drop. Maybe mark them up a certain percentage only, no more, and see how many sell. I know some will sell and I know that more of them will sell than if I put “crazy” high prices on them. Some brokers will tell you that it all averages out in the end. They say that if you set your prices at $25k instead of $2k you’ll only sell a few names but it’ll still average out higher or the same as selling many at the low price.

This always seems risky to me, maybe it will work out, but if it doesn’t then I haven’t sold anything. I really think that  for the majority of my names anyway, there are a lot of small fish that need a decent name, that will never pay a high price. Instead of always catering to the big guy, or trying to find that one word .com that will change your life, consider selling to the little guys or medium size businesses. They will always need names, there’s a lot more of them than huge companies or even “start-ups” and you’ll have more  potential customers than all the names you could possibly buy.

There’s nothing wrong with mixing all of these strategies together once you get one down that works.

GoodRace.com  No bidders. 17 years old.  Not a bad name for $12.  I like to have them

195 USD. Nice two word .com that makes sense, would make a great for running shoes and whatever else you guys buy. Lots of spandex I imagine.

TheSnowPros.com  SnowPros just sold for $685 ( I was outbid at the end) so it will be interesting to see what adding “the” does.

140 USD Great “The” domain that works almost as good as without it. In cases like this I think “the” lends a feel of authority to the name. Which Snowpros are you talking about? Oh The Snowpros, yeah those guys are great.

BibleTrivia.com  I would not get a pie in this game (Trivial Pursuit humor)

957 USD Category defining name if your business is Bible Trivia, 2 million searches in google.

TurboTouch.com No bidders. $12  I’ve always been a fan of touch names.  A lot of touching going on in technology

326 USD Turbotouch.com Touching you so fast you won’t even know we were there.

CVD.net  Under $1000 at press time

1,385 USD Cardiovascular Disease. Huge market, huge industry, Number one killer of Americans every year.

1111.me   Highest numeric dot me that I’ve seen.  And I’ve been doing this for over 3 weeks.

1,626 USD That is an impressive price

688866.com  Three 8s and two 6s.  It will win you a few poker hands and get you a few K in domains

2,328 USD, Also the craps rolls I want to see all day long.

DOPY.com I know I saw this one at auction before.  Either didn’t resell or someone is trying for a quick flip

2,800 USD I think it was relisted on Flippa, didn’t meet reserve the first time. Not sure though.

OPLN.com  Fantastic acronym letters.   I think this is going to be a good buy .  As I type I am thinking about buying it

6 days to go

GGG9.com   I had no idea that a NNNL.com would have this kind of value.

1,203 USD It’s a G thing.

Per Usual Huge group of LLLL.nets

TNDB.net, 216 USD

QRCH, 211 USD

CWTX. 212 USD

YZHF, 187 USD

DFLM, 217 USD

SKNH, 211 USD

OffandAway.com  Very nice travel name.  A few bids

810 USD I do like Phrase names that are popular and you immediately know what they’re about or could be.  Some of these are the sleepers that you can find great deals on with diligent list searching. They won’t fall into the normal keyword categories or search volumes, they won’t have any ad competition or CPC so they’re harder to find. Which is good for you if you have the patience to search.

878626.com  I am going to buy this one and apply for a permit to divide it into two NNN.coms

232 USD I’m going to start sub-domaining all my domains and see if I can sell the popular numbers.

FFDS.cc   I am a buyer of LLLL.cc

106 USD Take a look at Travis’s post from today. Follow .cc and compare it to the .net in every category. If the trend holds up .cc will be on par or surpass .net in value. If that’s the case these 4l.cc chips are about $200 under valued on average.

13G.cc  And I think NNL.cc are good buys as well

155 USD and it has the always popular G

Xiazu.com  The price tells me that this is a Chinese name

1,661 USD “Xiazu is in Guangxi, China, situated between Longyun and Pobei.”

Special Domain Shane ONLY Coupon…….. CODE IS DDCDS2015 – Good 30% off Discount Domain Club to get the lowest renewal prices Godaddy offers (DDC)

Toronto.tv   Met reserve and will sell.   Geo TVs are some of the best geo IMO

10 hours to go

PNBR.com  Take out the N and you have a very cheap but delicious beer

Ends Tomorrow, ahh the Blue Ribbon goodness…
