Top Ten Domainer Lies With Richard Head
By RichardHead - September 13, 2011 - 8 Comments
It's finally time for the unveiling of writer number three. In reality, he's an ass but the guy knows his stuff. He claims to be a 10 time winner of "Domainer of the Year" but when pressed admits the title is self given. He said he's been domaining for 25 years despite the fact that domains have really only been around for 16. What he lacks in etiquette, cleanliness, and ethics he more than makes up for in knowledge and humor. Besides the stuff this guy knows about other domain investors and this industry and his crude behavior I have a feeling I am going to need to work on my disclo... Read More »
My First E-List of 60 Domain Investing Tips. For the Low Low Price of Free
By ShaneCultra - June 10, 2011 - 13 Comments
Ok maybe it's not the first time you've seen it. I had been working on a list of 100 Domain Investing Tips and releasing 10 at a time. I was supposed to get to 100 but I haven't quite gotten there. Here's my list so far and if you have anything you'd like to share to make up the next 40 I'd love to hear it. Maybe something that works for you that may help someone else make a little money. Feel free to disagree with any of these, they are just things that work for me and may not work for others.
1. Do you own due diligence. Experienced domainers don’t mind answering questions but 95%... Read More »
That Which We Don’t Understand Scares Us: Don’t be afraid of ccTLDs and IDNs but Be Careful
By ShaneCultra - March 13, 2010 - 4 Comments
Over the last few days I have been working with Aaron of IDNTools on registering IDNs (full story at a later date) and friend Morgan Linton has recently unveiled his new site ccTLDinvestors.com (he's evidently made some money because he bought the i in this name). I am smart enough to know that there is a whole market of non regular TLD domains that are still in growth mode, I just don't know where to start. What I do know is those two sites are as good a place as any. I explained it to my wife as buying domains for places where my electrical plugs don't work.
I now have a whopping two days u... Read More »
8 MORE Reasons to Be Excited About the Future of Domaining
By ShaneCultra - March 12, 2010 - 14 Comments
Domaining can be profitable. For most, domaining will lose you money. It's a perfect way to $8 yourself into a financial black hole. Despite the risks, an intelligent, long term approach to this industry has enormous possibilities. Here are 10 more reasons to be excited about the future of domaining.
1. 500,000 estibot evaluations A DAY. That's how many queries Esa-Pekka Palvimak, the founder of Estibot, says he's getting . That's a boatload. I'm sure many of those are bots putting names through but regardless, it shows huge growth in domain investors. We need other investors to kee... Read More »
Domaining on a Budget: A Free Dropping Domains Analyzer
By ShaneCultra - March 4, 2010 - 6 Comments
When it comes to analyzing drops and checking through the names falling each day, we all have our favorites. From Domain Stryker to GoDrops to FreshDrops there are a ton of pay services out there but there's one I use every day and it's free. I'm writing this, not because I'm being paid (they couldn't pay me anyway, it's hard to pay for ads when your product is free) but because I actually use it. Domain Stryker is the best out there, it's simple and laid out well but it DOES cost.
DropDay.com has become one of my go to sites because it has great PR data and DMOZ listings in addition to the ty... Read More »

If You Aren’t Answering Emails You’re Leaving Money on the Table
By ShaneCultra - March 3, 2010 - 0 Comments
I've gone over this before but I was talking to a friend the other day who I really respect and something came out of our conversation that stuck with me. In the same conversation he said two things. Something to the effect, so and so never returns my emails. It's hard to work with them because they never get back to me. At the same time he said, "I'm bad about reading all my emails. I get so many I don't have time to read them all" I know this person WANTS to read and respond to all the emails and truly doesn't have time to respond because he works so hard but he also is pointing out the result... Links are More Than Just Links
By ShaneCultra - December 17, 2009 - 0 Comments
One of the most important things I've learned in the last two months in the "domaining world" is that my efforts are much better spent learning SEO and user habits , than picking perfect names. My
latest self teaching is link building. Rather than pay someone to randomly and blindly throw links up all over the internet, I and
a few others spend a little time each night finding sites and blogs that fit the interest of our websites. We often comment or answer questions that our websites can either help with or provide more information. We try and avoid just saying somet... Read More »
8 Mistakes Made On WordPress Sites Than Can Be Fixed in 10 Minutes
By ShaneCultra - December 4, 2009 - 2 Comments
We all do or have done at least one of them. I think I did all 8 on this blog. As domainers, many of us live and die by the wordpress based website. We can throw up a site in a few hours, have a nice looking site in a day but here are 8 things I see on thousands of websites that are signs someone is either uninformed, in a hurry, new to wordpress, or sloppy (I'm all those plus lazy).
1. Leaving "Admin" As Your User Sign In:
If you really want your site hacked, this is a great way to do it. It's easy to figure out if Admin is your user name and once a hack does, it's as simple as setting u... Read More »
ProTip of the Day: Drag and Drop in Valuate.com
By ShaneCultra - December 3, 2009 - 0 Comments
I, like many other people, like to get second opinions on my possible domain purchases and use Valuate and Estibot . Something that's not mentioned on Valuate is the fact you can drag and drop an entire auction database in the box and it will filter out everything but the domains. For instance, the Great Domain/Snapnames auction that just started can be easily thrown into Valuate for comparison. Simply highlight the entire box and drop it in the Valuate box. You'll notice all the other data dropped out and the names are nicely spaced and you should just get the results. No manual typing necessary. ... Read More »

Domainer Blog Tip: How to Take a Screenshot of Your iPhone
By ShaneCultra - November 30, 2009 - 0 Comments
You see them on all the blogs. Somehow they've taken a screenshot of an iPhone and it usually has the content they're talking about on the screen. At first I thought they had used photoshop or some special program but it's actually built into the iPhone. Simple press thee HOME and ON/OFF buttons at the same time. The screen should flash briefly. If you look in your photo album it should contain a photo in it with a picture of your screen.... Read More »
