My Picks for the Dot Me Auction

By - May 31, 2012 - 0 Comments
Everyone seems to be sharing their favorites in the dot me auction coming up on Sedo so I figured I would throw my picks into the hat.   On one hand, I'm glad to see that Sedo was fortunate to have the blog writers of the industry support the auction and write about it.  On the the selfish hand, it means the prices are going to be higher.  I was going to do a pick list either way because I see some great names on the board.  Here are my favorites for today  999.me  I like all the numbers.   Can't get much easier to type and say aloud Wifi.me   Not sure if wifi can be used as a verb but I... Zen and the Art of Domain Auction Science

By - February 7, 2012 - 2 Comments
I decided to conduct a little experiment recently. My question: Is the final price of a domain at auction at all affected by the time of year it is auctioned off? My answer: Not sure. To conduct my experiment I put 2 keyword rich domain names up for auction. The domains were two that I bought during the middle of last year and contained keywords that I felt would attract domainers looking for development domains towards the beginning of the year. Domain #1. FreeDebtAdvice[dot]com (FDA) With the new year comes people looking to get out of debt, either as a new years resolution, or just because of a... Read More »

My Recent Domain Purchases: Jumping On the Reveal Bandwagon

By - December 22, 2011 - 22 Comments
I figured if Morgan and Elliot are going to do it, I might as well to.  I have to admit I haven't made very many purchases lately and I've been saving up for a big purchase by selling off some of my numerics and better names. As I've stated before,  I started domaining with $0 dollars and everything I have is created from money I made blogging and then flipping names.  I have never put a dime of work or outside money into my portfolio.  Everything is self financed.  Here are the names I've purchased recently. All dot com unless noted 3548 deadplantsociety  (starting a new site of dead plants... Read More »

The Story of How and Why the Guys at Hall.com Got the Domain

By - December 8, 2011 - 4 Comments
The owners of Hall.com had a great article today about how and why they acquired their great domain.  I'm going to go ahead and be a spoiler and let you know they paid $20K for it.  Something they are extremely proud of (and should be).  In their words "After a few emails negotiating a price, we struck a deal for $20k. No equity, just cash exchanged with escrow.com. As a comparison, Mint.com gave up equity and 6 figures. Social.com was purchased for 2.6 million dollars by Salesforce.com" This wasn't in 1998 either this is recently. I'll let you read the rest of the story but one of the best take... Read More »

DomainShane’s Picks for the 2012 T.R.A.F.F.I.C Live Auction Power.com Will Sell

By - October 17, 2011 - 8 Comments
It's the he auction we've all been waiting for all summer.  The auction that is going to change the way all auctions are run from this point on.  While it may not do all that,  it does look like the auction is going to do well and I'll tell you why.  Rick has brought in the big boys to make sure that some of these names move.  Big boy names and big boy buyers.  I also think power.com will sell.  This alone will make the auction a success.  Exactly like I predicted for social.com, it may not sell at the auction reserve, I feel it will change hands as a result of it being listed. I've spent severa... Read More »
