First dot XXX Site Went Live Today

By - August 3, 2011 - 5 Comments
My exhaustive search has revealed that the first dot XXX site went live today.  Casting.XXX is officially open for business as the first live dot XXX domain on the web. Casting.xxx was launched under the ICM Registry’s Founder Program which will allocated 1,500 domains to 35 “founders.”   The site appears to be a site based on "amateurs" although after watching 90 to 100 videos I am going to say that a few of them may not be amateurs.   The "founder" in this case is Really Useful Ltd aka Lewis Richard Thomas of Grand Turk in the Turks and Caicos.  He is to be congratulated for working h... What Should The Revenue Multiple Be When Selling a Website in Today’s Market?

By - August 2, 2011 - 12 Comments
I was part of selling 7 or 8 websites back in 2007 and 2008 when multiples were sky high and getting 2 or 3 years revenue was commonplace.   In fact, I don't think I ever received less than 2 years on any site I've ever sold.  Over the last few weeks I've been watching Rick Latona and Flippa and trying to figure out what sites are going for in today's market.  There was also an article today on DNW that revived my curiosity . It was an interview with Ryan Moran discussing his experience with buying and selling sites.  He says he generally pay 8 X 12 time MONTHLY revenue.  My first impression was th... Read More »

Here’s How I Make Money With My Sites

By - July 28, 2011 - 19 Comments
I'm going to start off this entire post by saying I realize my sites aren't very pretty.  They have always been a work in progress to see what works.  To present in a way that gives the user information and yet have Google still deem it worthy of going to the front page.  I have big plans but like most of the domain investors I know, it's more in my head than in my site.  If fact, in the near future I will be working with Theo and Tia Wood to redesign the sites that present my information in a much prettier way. You've heard me say I make $500 to $1000 a month with my websites and many months mor... Read More »

Nothing More Gratifying Than Seeing a Domain You Sold Fully Developed

By - May 28, 2011 - 7 Comments
The old business mantra is to never fall in love with your assets.  While it may be a good practice, the reality is occasionally there are things you own that you like more than others.  I have had a few such domains but one of my favorites was Tapsy.com. I am proud that the domain I sold has now become a iPhone/Apple app company name. One of the categories of domains that I concentrate in is start-up names.  For 10 years I have been buying 5 letter dot coms that would make good online company names.  I probably should have purchased more generics ten years ago but I bought what I liked and that's ... RunningShoes.com Proves Yet Again, There is Huge Value In the First Page of Google

By - April 22, 2011 - 9 Comments
Seven hundred thousand dollars is a heck a lot of money.  For that kind of money you can build quite a business on an $8 domain name.  The buyers of the domain Cat5 were buying more than a domain name.  They were buying a company.  A company that is built on Google giving more juice to keyword domain names and in my opinion, even at those rates, a fair buy. Runningshoes.com is on page one, 5th result, for the term running shoes.  A huge, ever increasing search term.  They appear with the big boys in the shoe/running market Roadrunner sports, running warehouse, and runners world.  All companies...
