Domaining.com’s Domainer Newsletter Sales List Final Results
By ShaneCultra - January 23, 2012 - 3 Comments
We ( I say we but it was mostly Francois) released the final numbers from the past weeks' domainer newsletter sale. The numbers weren't great but $21,000 and 9 names isn't too bad for a first time. For me it was a learning process but I certainly feel that I have a stronger grasp on putting together a domain name sales list. Something I plan on doing at some point in the future. There is always opportunity for improvement and will take all the comments and recommendations with us in our next attempt. Here are the names. Each blogger that participated received a little over a $100. For many... Read More »

It Is My Honest Opinion That Domainers Have A Low ACI. What’s ACI? Read On To Find Out…
By ChrisWoodward - January 17, 2012 - 4 Comments
Every now and then I'll run across an article that changes the way I view the world. Sometimes it's for the better, sometimes for worse. Sometimes it's just so "funny because it's true", and that is what I ran across today.
Today Calvin Trillin of Slate.com introduced me to ACI. What is ACI? ACI is the newest and quite possibly the best way of measuring pretentiousness. Before you scramble to Dictionary.com, pretentiousness (in this context) can be summed up as talking about something for the sake of showing off, making yourself seem more important than you are, or "utter douchebaggery" in my par... Self Proclaimed “Jerk”, Bob Ely is Running For President and Using the Domain “WorkMoreKeepLess.com”
By ShaneCultra - January 8, 2012 - 3 Comments
In a story that seems it was written by The Onion, SeaCoastOnline had a pretty good story about Bob Ely. Ely is running for President but really doesn't want the job. He's merely running because “it dawned on me. If Michele Bachmann can run for president, I can, too.” He said he got tired of complaining and moaning and decided to do something about it. He's a lifelong independent who had to choose “between the lesser of two idiots” and “held his nose” while declaring as a Democrat. While he has a more detailed platform he can explain it in a few words, "spend like a Republican and ... Read More »

Everything I Need to Know In Business I Learned In Monopoly
By ShaneCultra - January 3, 2012 - 7 Comments
We all played monopoly as a kid. For most of us, it was the first time we got a taste of investing, buying and selling, and being broke. As a father of a 12 year old, I've come full circle and now it's time to teach my daughter a little about my favorite game. The art of making money and doing what it takes to win aka end up with the most money. Ironically, much of what I've learned in business, including domains, I learned early through countless hours of playing monopoly. Here are some examples.
1. Some times you have to use leverage. If I didn't have the cash, I always mortgaged my prop... Read More »

You Find Some Pretty Interesting Things When You Open Up Your Domains’ Email
By ShaneCultra - December 28, 2011 - 7 Comments
Recently I started getting curious. What would I see if I set up a catch all email account for a bunch of my domains? If you don't know what a catch all is, it's that little button that says "have this email catch all emails" . When you click on it, any email that doesn't have it's own individual email but shares that domain, goes to you. That means if you have shane@canstilldunk.com and somebody emails something to jsmith@canstilldunk.com and you don't have an email set up for that then you will get it. It opens up a world of interesting emails. After opening up 15 emails, here are some o... Read More »

My 10 Favorite Holiday E-Cards From SomeEcards.com
By ChrisWoodward - December 23, 2011 - 1 Comment
Just wanted to get started today by wishing everyone Happy Holidays and just remind everyone that Christmas day will be a great day to watch for good drops as there won't be much competition. I'm looking forward to watching my Lions crush my girlfriend's Chargers on Christmas eve which will most definitely cause a terrific fight that will almost certainly carry over to Christmas and thus ruin the entire weekend...ahhh 'tis the season. Sunday we're going to my parent's place where every year we have a big Christmas and Hanukkah party with our Christian and Jewish friends. I wish all of our loyal readers ... Read More »

What Would You Do for $5? My Top Ten Fiverr Things People Are Willing to Do
By ShaneCultra - December 21, 2011 - 6 Comments
I absolutely love fiverr.com. I don't really expect much for $5 yet I am always surprised what people will do for such little money. Then again, what is little for me may not be little to someone else. There are always the $5 tweets to thousands of followers and the facebook likes. None of which I have ever done because I can find better ways to build links but what I do like are the crazies and the unusuals. The people that are creative and skilled and willing to share those abilities for $5. Here are 10 Fiverrs that are going on now that I thought were pretty funny.
1. A six year ol... Read More »

A Little Fun On a Saturday Night AmishChristmasLights.com
By ShaneCultra - December 19, 2011 - 6 Comments
I was a little bored Saturday night. I wanted to try out Tumblr and see how easy it was to create a site. An hour later I had created AmishChristmasLights.com. I had gotten an email last year with one of the pictures and I thought it would be funny to do a whole site on it. I used my $1.99 code at Godaddy, bought the domain and created the site. I don't really expect it to do much as it was just for fun but it has gotten 150 visits today and made a little money. I put up a link on my facebook account and one on Sunday's domains pick and the links have built from there. A radio station picked it ... Read More »

Complete List Of 30 Second Ad Cost For All Primetime TV Shows: A $200,000 Domain Looks Like a Bargain
By ShaneCultra - December 17, 2011 - 6 Comments
Each year Ad Age does of a survey of advertisers to see compile a list of the cost of a 30 second ad for all prime time shows on the major networks and below are the prices for this fall. To the average person the prices seem incredible. To reach a national audience for a mere 30 seconds a company has to pay $500,000 on Sunday Night Football. The overall average for a 30 second commercial? $142,000 . Obviously companies feel this is worth the expenditures or the stations wouldn't be able to fetch these prices. Keeping that in mind, spending a few hundred thousand on a solid domain for their br... Read More »

So What Is The Value of Tebowing?
By ShaneCultra - December 13, 2011 - 13 Comments
Ron Jackson just ran an article on the value of Tebowing here in the last few minutes but since you can't comment I thought I would open the floor to discussion. Back in October we ran an article on Jared Kleinstein and tebowing.com and he emailed me and we had a chat on the phone.
As a former site owner with lots of traffic he wanted to pick my brain on how to monetize his site. My answer was simple. Build another site that has long term stability and send traffic to it so that when/if the Tebowing phenomenon wears off ,he would have another site that could continue the growth. The Gawker ...
