Imgur.com Has Become the 35th Most Visited Site in the U.S.: Meet Its Creator Alan Schaaf Part 2
By ShaneCultra - January 27, 2012 - 3 Comments
Back in 2009 I met a young man named Alan Schaaf. Alan had created a site called Imgur that was catching fire. It was becoming THE photo hosting site for social aggregation sites like Reddit and Digg. Two years and 6 MILLION visits per day later, Imgur has become one of the biggest sites on the planet and growing at a 20% PER MONTH rate. Alan and I have kept in touch over the years but I figured it was time for him to update us on how everything was going.
Well Alan, a lot has changed since we last talked. First of all, congratulations on being nominated as Best Bootstrapped Sta... Read More »

Interview with Looterang.com CEO Ben Huston
By ChrisWoodward - December 2, 2011 - 7 Comments
No, I'm not Morgan Linton, but yes I did conduct an interview with Ben Huston, CEO of coupon website start-up Looterang.com. As I reported last week, Looterang.com is an up and coming coupon deals site with a new concept that I think will catch on. When you register at Looterang, you register your credit or debit card, sign up for free offers from merchants, and then automatically receive the discount from Looterang's system when you pay at the merchants using the registered card. The concept eliminates the need to pre-pay for anything or print out and present coupons. They also have a great persona... Read More »

Rod Beckstrom of ICANN “More domain names should lower prices, increase innovation”
By ShaneCultra - October 13, 2011 - 7 Comments
Rod Beckstrom, President and CEO of ICANN sat down with the with LiveMint.com aka WallStreetJournal and answered a few questions about the domain industry and of course, touching on the new .tld domains coming to market. I thought he had a few interesting things to say but the main focus for us domain investors may be this question and answer
You have said opening up gTLDs will increase competition and reduce prices. Is that the idea behind the move?
Web rules: Beckstrom says there is a set of rules to determine which applications could go through and the qualifications for applicants. Photo: ... Read More »

StormChasers.com is a ‘Gold Mine’ to owner Warren Faidley
By ChrisWoodward - September 16, 2011 - 4 Comments
While watching television the other day I saw a couple of spots advertising the upcoming season of the show Storm Chasers on the Discovery Channel. Although I think the producers make the show a little bit more dramatic than the reality that occurs, I still like the show and find it interesting. I love storms and actually wanted to become a meteorologist my entire childhood life, right up until college when I took calculus and decided I'd rather not beat my head against a wall as a profession.
I jumped over to StormChasers.com for more info on the season only to find out that the domain does not forw... Read More »

The Chinese Domain Market: Part Two of the Insights of Anthony David: A Great Young Mind
By ShaneCultra - April 28, 2011 - 4 Comments
If you didn't read part one of my interview with Anthony David you missed out. Anthony is a young domain investor/site developer that previously lived in China and currently is working in Kuwait. Anthony and I have become friends because I think he is one of the up and comers in our industry. His 5 years in China and the fact he is fluent in Chinese enables him to give us an inside look at the Chinese domain industry and the culture in general. Today's interview in concentrated in this area and offers a perspective we don't often get in our industry.
Thanks again for coming back for a few mor... Read More »

Introducing A Sharp Young Mind: Meet Anthony David
By ShaneCultra - April 24, 2011 - 11 Comments
I first met Anthony David when he sent me an email asking a few questions. Like almost emails I receive, I did a little background check on who was behind it and I have to admit I was immediately impressed. I saw a guy from Canada that spoke French, Chinese and taught school in Kuwait. A man that has built an international team of coders and seemed to be a genuinely nice guy. He even fixed a few problems on my site because he couldn't stand to see errors on a site, any site. He did it for free and while he was in there cleaned things up a bit. I thought Anthony was a perfect guy to interview... Read More »

Ben Mezrik: My Favorite Session At DomainFest Had Nothing to Do With Domains
By ShaneCultra - February 9, 2011 - 1 Comment
It was actually with writer Ben Mezrik. Although you may not be familiar with the name , you certainly know his work. Mezrik wrote 'The Accidentally Billionaires' which became the Academy award winning movie (will be true very soon) "The Social Network' and 'Bringing Down the House' which became the movie '21'. Mezrik was as good an interview as I've heard in a while, and his easy going attitude and candid answers gave the session a feel of just a bunch of guys hanging around talking about past projects.
With every answer came a laugh as if he really was having a good time answering the questio... Read More »

He May Not Be A Prince But Jon Griffey Has a Princess, PrincessKate.com
By ShaneCultra - November 20, 2010 - 10 Comments
Unless you've been on a deserted island over the last weeks, you've heard that Prince William was recently engaged to the beautiful Kate Middleton, effectively giving her the new moniker of Princess Kate. Prince William's mother, the late Princess Diana, proved that the world is completely enthralled with the monarchy in England but especially their beautiful young princesses. Kate is soon to become the world's most photographed and watched woman in the world as over 3 billion people are expected to watch the wedding. While all the tabloids, tv stations, and magazines stand to benefit from the i... Read More »

Domain Masters Radio Show Is This Evening With Special Guest……..Me
By ShaneCultra - November 10, 2010 - 1 Comment
First the New York Times, now Domain Masters Radio. My press junket continues. Tonight at 7pm EASTERN, little 'ole me will join Morgan and Chef Patrick on DomainMasters Radio. I can guarantee we'll have a great time and should be lots of laughs with a little bit of learning.
It's a great honor to be on the show and compared to the past guests it's pretty obvious I've been chosen for my looks and comedy rather than my domain insight. Make sure to stop by as I get paid a bonus for every listener over 100,000 and could really use the money to put towards some new dot mobi names I've been eyein... Read More »

The Original Cybersquatter Lives Right Down the Road
By ShaneCultra - September 21, 2010 - 8 Comments
The Internet is a beautiful thing. It takes this giant world and condenses it into this nice little package. Things that seem so far away are in reality now just a click away. On the other hand, sometimes you find things and people that you had no idea live right next door.
I was trolling the Internet looking for domain names and it brought me back to one of my "want to own" domains, Champaign.com. A domain owned by Dennis Toeppen. I knew the name. He owns a bus line here in town and the domain forwards to that address. I had never really done any real homework on the name but knew that... Read More »
