Back in 2009 I met a young man named Alan Schaaf. Alan had created a site called Imgur that was catching fire. It was becoming THE photo hosting site for social aggregation sites like Reddit and Digg. Two years and 6 MILLION visits per day later, Imgur has become one of the biggest sites on the planet and growing at a 20% PER MONTH rate. Alan and I have kept in touch over the years but I figured it was time for him to update us on how everything was going. Well Alan, a lot has changed since we … FULL ARTICLE »

by Chris Woodward No, I’m not Morgan Linton, but yes I did conduct an interview with Ben Huston, CEO of coupon website start-up Looterang.com. As I reported last week, Looterang.com is an up and coming coupon deals site with a new concept that I think will catch on. When you register at Looterang, you register your credit or debit card, sign up for free offers from merchants, and then automatically receive the discount from Looterang’s system when you pay at the merchants using the registered card. The concept eliminates the need to pre-pay for anything or print out and present … FULL ARTICLE »

Rod Beckstrom, President and CEO of ICANN sat down with the with LiveMint.com aka WallStreetJournal and answered a few questions about the domain industry and of course, touching on the new .tld domains coming to market. I thought he had a few interesting things to say but the main focus for us domain investors may be this question and answer You have said opening up gTLDs will increase competition and reduce prices. Is that the idea behind the move? Web rules: Beckstrom says there is a set of rules to determine which applications could go through and the qualifications for … FULL ARTICLE »

While watching television the other day I saw a couple of spots advertising the upcoming season of the show Storm Chasers on the Discovery Channel. Although I think the producers make the show a little bit more dramatic than the reality that occurs, I still like the show and find it interesting. I love storms and actually wanted to become a meteorologist my entire childhood life, right up until college when I took calculus and decided I’d rather not beat my head against a wall as a profession. I jumped over to StormChasers.com for more info on the season only … FULL ARTICLE »

Mezrik wrote ‘The Accidentally Billionaires’ which became the Academy award winning movie (will be true very soon) “The Social Network’ and ‘Bringing Down the House’ which became the movie ’21′. Mezrik was as good an interview as I’ve heard in a while, and his easy going attitude and candid answers gave the session a feel of just a bunch of guys hanging around talking about past projects. It’s a great honor to be on the show and compared to the past guests it’s pretty obvious I’ve been chosen for my looks and comedy rather than my domain insight. Make sure to stop by as I get paid a bonus for every listener over 100,000 and could really use … FULL ARTICLE »

The Internet is a beautiful thing. It takes this giant world and condenses it into this nice little package. Things that seem so far away are in reality now just a click away. On the other hand, sometimes you find things and people that you had no idea live right next door. I was trolling the Internet looking for domain names and it brought me back to one of my “want to own” domains, Champaign.com. A domain owned by Dennis Toeppen. I knew the name. He owns a bus line here in town and the domain forwards to that address. … FULL ARTICLE »
