Time To Blog Less And Do More

By - February 4, 2012 - 4 Comments
This past week was a game changer.   The positivity and the business relationships built at DomainFest were enough that I really think I could do this full time.  But I'm not.  I love working at the nursery despite the emotion crushing aspects of working with the generation above.  The results are that I don't have the time to do it all. It's time I quit talking about what everyone else is doing and start doing it myself. While it doesn't mean that I am going to stop blogging, it only means that I'm no longer forcing articles and reporting stories.  I am not a reporter, I really never have been... Read More »

For That Price Should Bargin.com Come With Bargain.com?

By - February 1, 2012 - 2 Comments
Bargain.com is one of the bigger names up for sale at the upcoming DomainFest auction but surprisingly many bargain shoppers are "bargin" shoppers. According to an earlier Press Release by Sedo. "Bargain.com is currently owned by FYI Direct, a leader in direct-to-consumer credit and identity protection services. Originally registered in 2001 to Bargain Network, Inc., Bargain.com was developed over the years to provide information on real estate foreclosures and foreclosure listings, before becoming a lead generation platform for other daily deal companies. With the growing popularity of online dea... Read More »

Note To All Registrars: A Simple SMS Text With Pin Would Solve Most Domain Theft Issues

By - January 24, 2012 - 9 Comments
Domain theft is an issue but it doesn't have to be.  Most registrars don't even make an attempt to secure your domains other than a username and password to your account.  Godaddy has a security measure that they think is foolproof that involves an account representative calling you at your personal phone number and giving both a four digit pin and a verbal OK to transfer.  No doubt it works but what about weekends, late nights, transfers that need to be done quickly? When you rely on an agent to handle your transfer your domains you are relying on their time schedule.  They can't work all the ti... Read More »

10 “Future Trends” That I Feel Are/Will Continue to See Extraordinary Growth in 2012 and Beyond

By - January 23, 2012 - 7 Comments
You may call them future trends, you could call them now trends, but in my opinion they are trends that will still offer an opportunity for investment while it's still early in their life cycle.  There are plenty of ways to invest including owning domains, building out domains, or investing in companies in these areas.  Again, my opinion and only time will tell how these pan out.  So far I've been pretty good at predicting but lousy at putting my money where my mouth and brain is.  Here are my top 10 1.  Higher Quality MP3s.  With the onset of higher quality headsets people are going to start n... The Domains I Own That People Care Least About Are My Dot Co

By - January 21, 2012 - 14 Comments
I measure my "care" factor for my domains using the amount of Whois Checks/Searches on each particular domains.  Once or twice a month I use the Godaddy export tool (Whois Export Instructions)  to create a list of data regarding my domains and one of them is the weekly and monthly Whois checks on all of my domains.   Out of the 350 domains I own in my two accounts,  of the 10 domains that did not get a search this month, 3 of them were my dot co domains.  The only three I own at the moment.     I do like the dot co domains I own.  I purchased all of them for reasonable pric... Friday’s Big “Thank You” Goes Out to Clay Burt

By - January 20, 2012 - 4 Comments
One of the main reasons I write the blog is to meet great people.  People from all different walks of life, different views, different approaches.  People that help me grow and learn on this little journey of fun called life. One such person that has changed my way of thinking is Clay Burt.  Clay recently sent me a package. A package that had a few gifts but it wasn't the gifts,  it was the letter that came with it that I appreciated.   I get a few packages a month from readers or Internet friends that send me things they think I would like.  It might be a new shirt from their company, a small lit... Stories of a Lab Rat: Brought In to Test Physical and Mental Conditions of a 40+ Year Old Mentally and Physically Fit Man

By - January 17, 2012 - 10 Comments
One of the beauties of living in a college town is the endless amount of "lab rats" that grad students and professors are looking for to gather data.  Often I can get physical and mental tests that would cost thousands of dollars all done for free in exchange for making my data public.  Yesterday was one of those days. The test were part of data gathered to set up a basis of which to compare dialysis patients and their physical health.  They needed subjects 40-45 that were in average to above average shape and would use that data to be the "norm".  The test were balance, gait, body fat and body m... 10 End of the Weekend Thoughts

By - January 15, 2012 - 15 Comments
I was just starting to sit down and write my articles for tomorrow's post but I thought I would put down a few questions that ran through my head today.  As you all know, my mind races with thoughts and ideas all the time.  Here are a few 1. You think Lana Del Rey knows she blew it?  While there's no such thing as bad publicity, you have to feel bad for her.  She's getting blasted for everything from bad singing, no stage presence, lying about being raised in a trailer park despite being of a wealthy family, and being given too much fame for such a new artist.  While I knew she had a low end voi... The Missing Domain Domain At Godaddy: Part 2 The Update

By - January 14, 2012 - 15 Comments
There is no doubt that the people of Godaddy read my post from yesterday.  Immediately after writing the post the phone started ringing.  My account rep started off by saying they were going to do everything they could to try and get the domain but even if they couldn't they would give me my money back.  Sounds gracious except for one thing.  But before I get to that let me say this. Godaddy has changed the auction system so this will not happen again.  A Godaddy to Godaddy domain will INSTANTLY change hands within 5 days of payment. Automatically.  No buttons to to push. No procedures to follo... Read More »

Domain Squatting Isn’t Right, But Will Companies Ever Learn?

By - January 13, 2012 - 6 Comments
When will people learn? I'll be the first to say that domain squatting isn't right. While some would argue differently, blatantly trying to capitalize on someone else's idea and hard work just isn't the American way, to me anyways. Do your own work, make your own successes is the route I feel people should take. A lot of people do this, but I just don't understand why some make it so hard on themselves. I just read an article about a new music festival that decided to change their name  after someone snatched up the matching domain name before they did. Naturally, the festival founder claimed t...
