I am only speaking for myself but I may be speaking for a lot of people…..Adam Dicker, you need to get rid of that video of the guy in the blue shirt from all your sites. He is annoying and I’m pretty sure that Internet users absolutely do not pay attention to those types of videos. On the contrary, a new user will automatically associate spam or marketing if that’s the first thing they see when you visit your site. I stopped visiting DnfBlog because of it and for the first time I just saw it on DnForum. I wasn’t … FULL ARTICLE »

I’m been running a business (or helping run) for the last 15 plus years. My viewpoints are different than many others but here are 10 things I’d thought I’d share that I’ve noticed in the last few years. 1. In the US the “baby boomers” are the biggest portion of our population and they are getting old. They are in their mid 60′s and they are a special category. They expect full service and cheap prices. They are a tough demographic to make happy but there is big money to be made in the areas they HAVE to have, especially … FULL ARTICLE »

Of course I have to chime in on the beatdown of Juan Calle and dot co regarding the video of the LeWeb “Couldn’t get the dot com so I’ll take the dot co” story. Let’s start at the very beginning. Colombia was stuck with a name that immediately labeled it as a typo of dot Com. Investors didn’t view it an investment in an emerging tld but rather a chance to get some free traffic. Negativity from the get go in the footsteps of the dot cm disaster. Along come the dot co team and does an excellent job marketing … FULL ARTICLE »

Its a beautiful quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson and in my opinion, never a truer word has been spoken. If there is one common denominator is all my accomplishments in my life it has been that good things take time to build. Most things do not happen overnight. Time is a barrier to entry that lets those that have patience triumph over those that are unwilling to sacrifice and wait. Growing plants has taught me from a young age that you must wait for things to mature in order to get full reward. When I plant a tree seedling it … FULL ARTICLE »

There are still a number of great ways to make money in domain investing. The easy money may be no longer be so easy but there is no lack of opportunity in our industry. Here are ten reasons why I think you’re still going to be able to make money domaining. 1. There is liquidity. If you have a solid domain there are enough markets to sell through. Whether it be Sedo, Afternic, Namejet, Godaddy, Newsletters, and even the forums, there are plenty of places to move your names. They may not get you the top dollar of an end … FULL ARTICLE »

The beauty of the Internet is that sales aren’t effected by weather. The weather has been so shitty here in Central Illinois. Rain, tornadoes, cold. You name it we’ve had it. Highs in the 40s last Saturday and 90′s this Thursday. If you believe in the world coming to an end then the crazy weather is supporting your case. It screws with sale in the nursery because its feast or famine. Rain and we have people that can’t get their job done and then sun and we have so many customers we can’t help them all.
I’m going to start off by saying I don’t know the owners of the domain I am going to talk about and I have no ill will either but there are certain things that make me feel like some domain owners think we’re all idiots. The other day I talked about a domain dropping at Godaddy, checkout.org. I said that I was going to buy it if it sold below $1500. It sold for $1600 so I didn’t buy it. Good buy for the new owner and best of luck to them. Then I go to the Domaining.com headlines and … FULL ARTICLE »

Everyone has a different method to finding domain names. There are tens of thousands of names to look through every single day and everyone has a method of scanning through. I don’t follow the Mike Mann method of buying all of them and instead look for a few each day that fit my criteria. Here is my exact method of going through the lists and I do it in this exact order. I use Dropday as my tool but there are many tools out there that will do the same thing.
1. Make more than 67 cents a day in parking. Goal accomplished: There was a point in time I was putting more leftover change from my pockets in the change drawer on my dresser than I was getting from parking. I didn’t have many names during the glory days of parking. I caught the tail end of it and if I had anything of value I usually sold them off for spending money for new domains. Most domainers make in literally two seconds what I was making a day. I vowed to change that. Not that I feel parking is … FULL ARTICLE »

This is the title of an article from Henry Cooke over at Stuff.co.nz. No doubt the title was created to draw attention but his article doesn’t stray very far from the headline. In a nutshell, he states the more generic the domain, the more irrelevant it is. They are TOO generic. Add to the fact that most of the generic terms lead to ads and bad content, users no longer are giving extra credit to the super generic. And I can’t say I completely disagree. But Henry Cooke is just stating his opinion without much knowledge about the value of … FULL ARTICLE »
