DomainFest Barcelona Auction Has Some Great Names and a Few Problems

By - May 24, 2011 - 5 Comments
Over the last few years I've had countless articles about domain auctions and their inability to add "sweet spot" domains to their live auction list.  By sweet spot I mean domains that would sell in the $2 to $5K amount and draw multiple bidders due to their low entry point.  While there is no doubt that the bills are paid by the 6 and 7 digit domain sales, I believe they can get rid of the "friends and family" domains off the list and swap them with some lower priced, more attractive names. Let's start with the positives.  Their are some fantastic names in the DomainFest Live auction. Let's look... Read More »

Since It’s The End of The World I’m Going to Say a Few Thanks

By - May 21, 2011 - 7 Comments
I wasn't really paying attention and found out yesterday that the world is supposed to end.  I don't really believe in this end of the world stuff but just in case I wanted to thank a few people before we go. 1. Thanks to the self checkout attendant at Meijer's.  I have been coming there for two years and checked myself out every day. I have no idea what you do to earn your money other than to make sure I don't steal.  They've assigned you to watch 4 self checkouts and I'm pretty sure someone could handle 8.  This morning I put in that I only bought 8 donuts and I really bought 9. One, to prove y... Read More »

Really? Somebody Is Spending $80,000 Plus on Moniker’s WhoIs Privacy

By - May 21, 2011 - 10 Comments
Going through the domains that are transferred over to InternetTraffic.com I notice a batch of 21,000 names moving over from hitfarm.  Like any domain investor, my first curiosity was to find out who has the 21,000 domain portfolio moving over to Frank's house of money.  But guess what?  Every damn domain in the portfolio has Moniker's privacy protection on it. While I'm sure there is some sort of price break for someone that has that many domains, the regular price of $4 per year/per domain would mean that someone spent over $80,000 for the privacy.  To some $80,000 is no big deal but to most it... The Results of Your Advertising Are The Results of Your Efforts

By - May 18, 2011 - 2 Comments
How do you pick where to advertise? Is it based on cost? Targeted market? Ability to offer an engaging technology? Most likely all of the above. What most people don't consider is that the quality of your ad is just as important as where and when you place it. I am constantly amazed how many people make an ad put it up and then bitch about how it doesn't perform, blaming it on the form of media it was place on. Successful advertising is both art and skill.  Oversimplifying it,  there are two forms I use every day to market my businesses.  One, is the reminder ad.  It's an ad in a market that I... Congrats to Morgan and His New Wife: Here’s My Advice for Him and His Domains

By - May 17, 2011 - 8 Comments
Congratulations to Morgan Linton and Daina on their recent engagment.  If you've been around Morgan the last year you could see the relationship escalating and pretty much assumed this day was coming soon. It's always nice to see young love and it's especially nice to see that his new wife enjoys domain investing and all that he does.  He truly has a new partner.  If I was to give him 5 points of advice in regards to domain investing. 1.  Put a list together of all your domains and websites, where they are registered and for how long.  Do the same for your passwords.  Make sure it is kept updat...
