By - April 18, 2012 - 17 Comments
That's the title of a question and answer session over at Reddit yesterday. A reddit user has opened himself up to questions regarding how he makes over $5K a month with his sites.   According to the post he has sold off most of his sites and kept the main site but that still generates the $5,000.  His aged domains have brought in over $200,000 in sales on Flippa lately.  Here are all his sites and the data from Adsense Here are some of the better questions and answers from thread Q. How would I start after buying a website at Flippa for $500? A. It really depends on which website you bough... Read More »

Please Send Me Your Cheapest Price

By - April 16, 2012 - 7 Comments
It's the stupidest statement in all of domain negotiation emails.  I can honestly say that I have an exact success rate of 0% when the first offer contains that statement.  Does the person on the other end of that quote think that I'm all of a sudden going to drop my price because of this Jedi mind trick of a statement? If anything, I raise my price just to spite them. And that's if I even reply to the email in the first place. I'm used to it by now from the mass quote requests I get for the numeric domains.  Foreign numeric offers are all pretty much the same.  "I am interested in NNNN.com.  Pl... Read More »

There is A Reason The Top Domain Investors Get Top Dollar Prices. They Ask Top Dollar

By - April 11, 2012 - 7 Comments
The old saying is the price of a domain is determined only by the amount the buyer is willing to spend. But its also determined by how much the seller asks for. The quality of a domain is certainly the first determining factor. Social.com is going to sell more than socialexperience.net. But get away from the standout domains and you get into a giant world of anything goes pricing. The constant in the equation, in order to get a high price you have to ASK for a high price. I get questions every day asking what I think a domain is worth. My answer is usually what I would pay or what I think I coul... Read More »

Why? Because My Bank Won’t Give Me a Loan Against My Domains

By - April 5, 2012 - 15 Comments
If you want to go to the bank and get a loan in today's market you better own some hard collateral.  The days are over where money is lent on hope, promise, or even past rental income.  Nope.  Today they will only give you a loan on things they are positive they will be able to resell. Yes, there are ways to get money to buy domains and a few places to put your domains up as collateral to get some cash, but for the most part, you are going to be hard pressed to put up your domains in order to get a loan.  Despite the fact that the government gave small local banks money to loan out to small busin... Domain Name Negotiation: Who Goes First?

By - April 2, 2012 - 3 Comments
It's a conversation I've had with other domain investors quite often.  What's the best approach to negotiating a domain sale?  One thing that many of us seem to agree on, the person that puts out the price first is at a disadvantage. It's an odd situation. It's probably one of the few things in the world that when a person wants to buy something from you and you don't give them a price.  If any other business used this approach they wouldn't stay in business very long.  So why wouldn't you want to give a price when asked? My reasoning is simple and one you've probably heard similar statements ... Read More »
