Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.

Flips sold for 1,080 USD recently at NameJet, vs 320 USD on 2015-05-19 at NameJet. The seller won’t be able to retire on this one, but it’s well over a double after commissions in a year. sold for 3,533 USD recently at NameJet, vs 2,100 USD on 2015-10-13 at NameJet. There aren’t many profitable flips in this 7 month holding timeframe — most have gone down from the end of last year to today. sold for 1,222 USD recently at NameJet, vs 141 USD on 2011-07-26 at NameJet. Whereas the the with a hold of a year or longer, like this one, are typically profitable. sold for 1,551 USD recently at Sedo, vs 331 USD on 2007-02-13 at Sedo. These have dipped in price like the, but they’re holding firmer than, in part because they didn’t have the same meteoric rise last year. sold for 905 USD recently at Flippa, vs 130 USD on 2014-11-20 at Don’t believe the line that the seller is just a conversation facilitator….he has an enviable sales track record over the past couple years. This approximately 6x return after commission won’t fund a fancy family vacation, but maybe a pair of aerodynamic water wings for the next swim meet?

Flops sold for 1,500 USD recently at NameJet, vs 2,000 USD on 2014-07-01 at NameJet. Really long = really out of favor. sold for 316 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 3,000 USD on 2011-04-06 at Sedo. Yes, it’s a one word .com, but most people don’t know what it means. sold for 236 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 8,500 USD on 2011-08-16 at Sedo. This domain was forwarded to right after acquisition, and I couldn’t see any screenshots of a stand-alone site. is still live. sold for 5,000 USD recently at NameJet, vs 5,001 USD on 2016-04-11 at NameJet. 15% commission = 15% loss on the domain. sold for 2,400 USD recently at NameJet, vs 2,900 USD on 2015-11-25 at NameJet. sold for 2,900 USD recently at NameJet, vs 3,900 USD on 2016-01-28 at NameJet. sold for 1,000 USD recently at Flippa, vs 4,995 USD on 2013-04-15 at Afternic. They built a logo (below) and a placeholder site, but it must have never gotten off the ground.


Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
