Domain Flips (, and Flops (,

Jun 12 2016

It’s summertime in Colorado. The picture below is from a trail marathon which went up to 13,000′ yesterday outside of Fairplay, CO, and it’s incredible how quickly the snow has melted off, after spending the Memorial Day weekend snowshoeing just a couple weeks ago.

Below is another look at a few recent domain flips and flops, with data courtesy of NameBio.

Flips sold for 2,400 USD recently at NameJet, vs 630 USD on 2016-03-27 at GoDaddy. Really impressive return in under three months, buying from one domainer platform and selling on another. sold for 4,355 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 898 USD on 2015-06-03 at GoDaddy. Another ‘property’ domain with a nice return, this time in a year. The current landing page has a $25,000 BIN price. sold for 14,926 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 1,075 USD on 2014-06-05 at GoDaddy. Nearly 14x before commission in 2 years. I’m not smart enough to understand these numeric domains, but I like the looks of the returns. sold for 5,000 USD recently at NameJet, vs 1,272 USD on 2011-01-31 at Sedo. sold for 1,300 USD recently at NameJet, vs 410 USD on 2015-07-05 at NameJet. sold for 1,201 USD recently at 4.CN, vs 260 USD on 2014-09-25 at NameJet.

Flops sold for 52,161 USD recently at Sedo, vs 270,600 USD on 2010-06-16 at Sedo. We talked about this one briefly prior to Sedo’s Great Domains Auction, and it doesn’t appear any site was ever live since the 2010 acquisition. Huge loss of over $200k. sold for 2,950 USD recently at GoDaddy, vs 7,500 USD on 2011-04-08 at Sedo. sold for 2,200 USD recently at NameJet, vs 3,519 USD on 2015-06-12 at NameJet. sold for 1,250 USD recently at Flippa, vs 4,000 USD on 2009-11-18 at Afternic. Below is a past screenshot from, and the business must not have survived, even though they raised $2 million in VC funding in the past.  Interestingly, the screenshot says that it was listed in Inc.’s listed of fastest growing companies.

Note: I didn’t do an exhaustive search of the ownership history of each domain. There are likely cases where there were multiple owners between the sales prices I list.
