Update on Top 10 Sales from A Year Ago: Shout.com, eBet.com, Teen.xxx, Collectively.com, More

Sep 26 2014

Listed below are updates to the top 10 domain sales from a year ago, as ranked by DN Journal.

1. eBet.com for $1,350,000

  • Domain is under privacy protection and, for me at least, redirects to Google. In prior months, it has been parked with Internet Traffic. Presumably (?!?!) they have some sort of plan in place since they dropped over a million bucks on it, but we haven’t seen the plan yet…..  Sold by Rick Schwartz, and I enjoyed reading the background of the negotiation process in one of his posts. Alexa rank near 1.5 million.

2. Shout.com for $450,000

  • An online survey builder that is rebranding from “Kwik Surveys”. Alexa rank near 2.9 million.

Shout

3. Teen.xxx for $400,000

  • It’s not developed, and Whois shows the ICM Registry as the registrant. Did this sale not actually close?

Teen
4. USA.org for $56,000

  • The simple placeholder is below. Owned by GasPedal LLC of Austin, TX, which describes itself as follows: “We teach word of mouth marketing and social media to companies of all sizes. It’s more fun to work at a company people love to talk about!”

USA

5. Skylofts.com for $41,250

  • MGM Resorts is smart enough to buy the domain, but they’re not smart enough to redirect the domain to their developed SkyloftsMGMGrand.com. This is the brand name for the lofts they rent above the MGM Grand. I checked the rates during NamesCon in January next year, and the cheapest option I was offered was about $800 per night for a one bedroom.

6. Collectively.com for $30,000

  • I’m probably not their target market, because I don’t have a clue what their description means: “Collectively is building social backchannels where independent workers can spend their workdays with nearby professionals in their field. Not a place to broadcast or promote, they serve as the 21st century water cooler for this new breed of independent professionals.”

Collectively

7. Likers.com for $28,000

  • No site resolves. Owned by a ‘Hot Hare Software Ltd’ of Belize, per Whois.

8. NineForums.com for $25,000

  • A Windows 9 forum which isn’t affiliated with Microsoft. Alexa rank near 1.6 million.

NineForums

8. SneakyPete.com for $25,000

  • An upgrade from SneakyPeteHolsters.com, which is where this domain is redirected. A seller of gun holsters, ammo clips, etc.

SneakyPete

8. Triglycerides.com for $25,000

  • Forwards to the triglycerides page of the ArizonaPharmaceuticals.com website. The company has a goal to develop, produce, and distribute supplements and non-prescription drugs that deliver measurable results.

I would think that teen.xxx would be risky and under scrutiny by the feds.

Too susceptible to child p0rn allegations, given that anyone under 18 is still, by law, considered a child.

I wouldn’t touch that poisoned well for all the money in the world.

      Phil, what resolves for you?

I’m pretty average with technology…..so I’m guessing the average person sees the same thing as me?
